Noom

I have signed up for Noom, I am still on the free trial and have competed a week with a week still to go before I have to pay unless I cancel. I have a deal so about £60 for six months and another £13 for the premium bundle which I think includes an exercise plan which I haven't used yet and I may cancel that even if I do go head with the subscription.

So far I am really liking the lessons and I have also bought the noom book to go along with them but I do think I need to start taking notes to get the most out of them. I also like the way you check everything off as you go so your daily weight, water intake, food logging and I love the fact that you don't get a rigid set number of calories a day but rather a weight loss zone which is flexible. I also like how it adds back half your exercise calories so you can eat them!

I am a few months into my weight loss and exercise journey as they say but I did lose 3lbs my first week on noom which is probably the biggest plus point and that is even with bumping my calories up by 500 from what noom initially set for me, I am someone who needs to eat a decent amount of food!

Things I am not so sure about are the fact that you do not get a macro breakdown of your daily or weekly food intake and I don't really want to have to log it all twice to get that information. I think their colour coding for food is not great, plenty of healthy options are considered orange i.e. too calorie dense even though they might be more satisfying being higher in fat or protein. I am a vegetarian which I think noom lends itself to but even I end up over shooting on my orange foods which they want you to limit in favour of foods with a high water content.I would much rather see a macro breakdown.

I am enjoying the "gamification" of the app, checking things off, setting weekly commitments and so on but I do worry that this is a novelty and once it wears off in a few weeks (after paying of course) I'll be subscribed to a subpar calorie counter! Also personal one on one coaching seems to be a thing of the past with the app which is a shame it is now an AI coach who just gives canned replies. I think you can access a real person but it is kind of like contacting a help desk. To be fair I know that £60 isn't enough for one on one coaching but there is no option to add this for a premium either. Also most of the add on's don't seem to be available in the UK.

I also can't comment on the noom community as I am unable to access them, I think that will be after the free trial but it would have been good to see them as they could be a deciding factor in my staying or not.

Is anyone else using noom? What do you think of it, does the novelty wear off after a few weeks? Is the noom community any good?
