Fat to slim

I’ve been big all my life.
Age 2 onwards really. I’ve never known what it’s like to be slim.
I’m now nearly 40 and a size 20.

At the age of 25 I just accepted that I was fat and proud…however now I’m getting older I’m suffering with aches and pains which I think come from my weight and also blood pressure on the higher side of normal.

Im on a diet- I’ve already lost 10lbs but I do have a few stone to loose (6 in total). I will loose this weight- Something in my head has just clicked!

What I’m asking is - Has anyone been big and lost a lot of weight (gone from fat to slim) and how has it changed your
life?

Is the grass greener on the other side?
Are people nicer to you?

If be so interested to hear what’s changed for you since loosing weight.
Has is changed your life or apart from smaller jeans not much at all?

Im not asking for diet advice though I have found something that really works for me 🙂

Well done on your weight loss 🤗
I’m really glad you have found something that works

Well, I do think people treat you differently. I’ve had a mixed bag really. Some other women have been a bit bitchy and sometimes it’s amusing and sometimes it’s not, some people literally don’t mention it even though it’s so obvious, I’ve lost nearly 5st I look completely different. Some people go OTT and it’s all they want to talk about. Some people tell you ‘ooh if you lose too much you will look old!’ Or ask about loose skin. Some people just smile at you more. I do feel less ‘visible’ now, I just blend in like anyone else. I used to feel self conscious but now I don’t really as much. Some people try to sabotage you by making you feel bad for not eating cakes and takeaways with them.

you know what is nice? Being able to paint my toenails and shave my bikini line without having back pain and struggling to reach. This is the first year in summer I haven’t had thigh rub - I used to get blisters. I like wearing shorts for the first time ever. My ankles don’t swell up when it’s hot.

My back doesn’t hurt. I can walk so much faster and not out of breath anymore. My skin looks great, clear and my hair has grown really long and healthy. I no longer have really bad IBS! I also feel more settled in my mental health - I’ve had really bad anxiety my whole life since a child but I now feel more content and less anxious. I try new foods and I am more adventurous. I sleep better. I am less interested in alcohol which was an issue for me for a while

Keep going, keep motivated. It really is worthwhile for so many reasons. It really is a whole bigger picture, not just what you look like on the outside 🥰

Congratulations OP, you are doing the right thing.
I'm 50+ and recently lost 5 st (size 18/20 to a size 10). I have been obese my entire 40s but earlier in life I was slim to normal/little bit overweight.
The difference is incredible, and quite sad really when you think about how society views big people. Slim privilege is real, people notice you in a positive way and are much nicer and take me seriously at work. When I was at my biggest people viewed me as if I was mentally challenged or something (sorry, don't know of a better way to put it), I saw pity and disgust in people's eyes; "That is what giving up looks like." Or they would just gloss over me.
I love being able to get the clothes I like now rather than having to chose some nasty big tunic because it's the only thing that fits.
So many aches and pains are gone.
Not hating myself in photos.
Ran for a bus the other day and it was easy, I felt so free.
Mental freedom from not worrying about fitting into seats and that kind of thing (my friend has spindly rickety kitchen chairs and I was afraid it was just a question of time before I was going to break one).
Older women are obsessed with my loss, it's quite cringey.

@Blueberryancakes well done on your loss so far. I am on this weight loss journey now.. I started April 15th at 19stone 2lbs :( I am now 16st 10lb with a way to go but I have already noticed a massive increase in energy, slimmer figure and my joints aren't hurting

Good luck :)

Well done on your weightloss so far OP. Im almost 52yrs old and have been overweight all my life. I got to 50 and really started to struggle with general aches, pains and breathlessness from doing even the most simple things like walking upstairs and i realised something had to change. 18 months on i have lost 4 and a half st (now weigh 10st) and at 5ft 2in i could still loose another comfortably but honestly im happy. The best thing is just feeling 'normal'. I dont stand out anymore, im not afraid to eat in public or go to a gig in case someone dreads sitting next to me. It is the best thing i have done for myself and i hope you succeed too.
