Totally fed up. 57 and can't lose weight on 1000 cals a day! Is there any point dieting if you don't want injections!

I am feeling totally miserable about my weight and wondering what the point of trying to diet is when everyone seems to be on the injections and losing tons of weight.

At Christmas I was about 2 stone overweight. I'm 57 and menopausal. Since then I've lost 10lbs through calorie counting and upping my exercise - I broke my shoulder last year and then cracked a bone in my foot, so I've been limited in what I can do.

For the last 2 months I have - as evidenced by MFP - eaten between 800 and 1200 calories a day and I've started walking briskly for 30 mins a day. I've lost 1lb.

I keep gaining and losing the same pound, I'm eating very little and not eating until 12.30pm. I don't drink during the week and often not at the weekend.

And I've just seen photos of myself and I look huge.

My friend is on Wegovy and has lost nearly 3 stone in the last few months. I dont want and can't afford injections but feel totally miserable.

Why is my body doing this??? I've kept a log of MFP and about 8 years ago I did a few months at 1400 cals a day and lost a stone! If I ate 1400 calories a day now I would put on weight. I'm on HRT.

I eat healthily, loads of green veg, protein etc. Ironically I am happier and more energetic than I've been for ages, until I think about my weight!

I have been struggling to lose weight also despite doing everything correctly. I use the nutricheck app, weigh all foods, walk at least 10k a day and lift weights ( just for ten mins )

I have started taking Ashwaghanda ( not correct spelling ) and since I have my weight is finally slowly moving.

Apparently it helps lower cortisol which is a big reason for women in mid life not shifting weight especially around the mid section. I don’t know if it is a coincidence but I am sticking to it!

@Suenami how are you getting on?

Suenami · 18/07/2024 10:55

Hi!

It's improving! I've been fast walking twice a day. Not far, about 4km in total. And also drinking LOADS of water.

I had a really bloated, windy stomach last weekend, so this week I've really cut down on fibre. I've been eating eggs, bacon and mushrooms for my lunch (first meal of the day) to try and avoid more bloating and its been keeping me full all afternoon.

Anyway, I weighed 12.12 today. Result.

I'm 62 and have just lost 2 stone on one of the shakes and bars diets 600 calories a day. There is an NHS one but I don't know what it is called.
I'm starting wegovy next month privately.
I'm determined to get the weight off, you also need to exercise, I'm off work with acute back problems, I lost the use of my legs for 6 weeks so I walk 2 miles a day on my rollator. I don't care what I look like, I just need to lose weight or my back will never get better.

Well done! Keep going x

I would recommend trying a laxative at a very small dose unless you are actually aware of being constipated- I take 1 sachet of laxido a day, I had a similar issue to you and it was my gut not working properly , as soon as I started laxido and was going regularly 1-2 times a day I then added in a probiotic (optibac) and I then started to lose weight as my digestive system was working properly
