Trying to aim for a 'real life' number on the scale as a goal rather than a random one plucked from the air - if you're short, what weight do you feel best at?

I'm 5'1 and still chubby despite losing a few kilos!

I think weight might not be the only factor to think about OP, but age and how your body distributes extra weight.
Im 35, 5’2” and currently around 9st10lbs and a size 10. I felt much more comfortable around the 9st mark when I was a size 8. I’m lucky that my weight is quite evenly distributed. Sort of hourglass shape.

RabbitsRock · 06/07/2024 08:30

5ft 2.5” ( don’t forget that half inch!) & 13 stone 10 which I know is way too heavy. I was 16 stone at my biggest which I think would be classed as morbidly obese. I have photos of me at 9 stone & I don’t look especially healthy ( I did at that weight when I was younger but I’m 58 & look better with at least a bit of meat on my bones!) Aiming for around 10 stone but I’ve stopped beating myself up if I reach for a 2nd biscuit for example. Quitting drinking was the best thing I could have done.

VolvoFan · 06/07/2024 10:06

I've done 7030 steps this morning. Now eating breakfast which is a plain croissant, about 20g of all bran with some milk, and zero sugar squash. I'll weigh myself first thing tomorrow morning.

squishyarms · 06/07/2024 10:13

I'm 5ft 1 and I weigh about 9st 10 or thereabouts depending what time of the month it is. I think I actually look much better at 9st but I haven't been that weight since before I had my DS's - the youngest is 9 Blush

Leavingasinkingship · 06/07/2024 14:34

It depends at lot on your frame, how you carry your weight and your body composition.
I'm 5ft 3, petite frame (narrow shoulders and hips, flat chested) Most of my adult life I weighed less than 8 stone. I was skinny but didn't look gaunt (my face shape was not blessed with cheekbones!)
These days I weigh 9.5 stone because I've been strength training for about fifteen years. I have more muscle in my back and shoulders, and on my legs, which gives me a different shape.

If I was 9.5 stone on my frame without the muscle it would naturally go to my waist so it would look very different!

You do need to think about what's sustainable though. The amount of calories a person under 8 stone needs day to day is likely to be pretty low, even if they are active. It's not just a case of dieting down to that weight; how would you feel knowing that 1400 calories is all you need per day forever? As that's what my maintenance was when I was that small (fine for me at the time as a skint stressed vegetarian living off toast and instant noodles, but not something I'd want to do now!)

ATribeCalledQuestion · 06/07/2024 14:38

I'm 5 foot nothing and I'm 10 stone. I feel fat, although I've lost over a stone recently. I felt my best at 8.5-9 stone, although that was ten years ago so I didn't have wrinkles and my boobs were in the right place 😁 I'd like to lose another stone, although to be honest I'm getting there with learning to love myself as I am. And I really like food, and I'll be honest that I am not prepared to put in the hard work it would require to shift that stone...

theveryhungrybum · 06/07/2024 14:39

5ft 3 and 55kg

Good thoughts thank you!

I work out most days and I'm active so for me the balance of maintaining calories is more for eating for energy rather than pleasure.

So I'd be happy at a lower weight maintaining with fairly low calories; as long as I have energy!

When dieting I can just switch off to food, my mind just flips a switch, but I don't want to encounter fatigue/headaches etc.

I’m small and I need much more than 1400 a day, I keep losing weight at 1800. But then I have personality of a rabbit on crystal meth plus I run and exercise.

Leavingasinkingship · 06/07/2024 16:25

@CortieTat agreed. At the same height my maintenance now is 1900-2000 (albeit a higher weight) even though I'm in my forties. Albeit at a higher weight but still slim; the muscle gain has made a big difference with that.
Maintenance was a lot less when I was skinnier, despite being on my feet all day (retail) and walking everywhere, and having youth on my side!
But I think a problem with weight loss culture generally is not preparing people for what long term weight maintenance will look like, especially as they start to get towards a target weight. It's obviously not as harsh as the diet, but a big change in weight is going to mean a big change in what the lifestyle will look like.

Babetti · 06/07/2024 16:37

5ft 2" and my average weight is 55kg. I weigh daily - it can be as low as 53kg and as high as 57kg. I've a small frame so 60kg really wasn't great on me. 1400 calories a day for maintenance.

HeadNorth · 06/07/2024 16:45

5 foot 1 and 8 stone - this is my happy weight. I've been thinner, because weight falls off when I'm stressed and fatter, when I was breastfeeding. I think I look my best at 8 stone - certainly slim, but not skeletal. I exercise so I am reasonably toned as well. I am late 50s, on HRT.

Femalefootyfan · 06/07/2024 16:46

Five feet nothing and about 8 stone 4lbs. I was almost 11 stone 2 years ago, far too heavy so I put a lot of work into losing the weight and I’ve dropped from a big size 12/small 14 to a size 8. I did get to just under 8 stone but I felt I looked a little gaunt, so I’ve put a bit back on. Pretty happy with where I am now although I’m trying to lose 3 or 4 pounds ready for an upcoming holiday so I can have a bit of an indulgent week 😁

@Femalefootyfan That's impressive! How did you do it?

ohthejoys21 · 06/07/2024 18:06

I'm 5ft 5 and have put on a stone in a year, was 8.3 and now 9.3.. till two weeks ago when I got Covid and couldn't eat. Gave me a kick start and I'm down to 8.9. I'm in my 50's and the only thing that works is one meal a day. Drastic and short term.

I have a couple of expensive pairs of trousers (The Row) and it kills me that I can't wear them. Also going away in a few weeks and want to enjoy myself in moderation.

theteddybear · 06/07/2024 18:31

5ft1 and I'm around 8 stone 3 or 4. I feel best at about 8 stone or a couple of pounds below.

Pre kids I was between 7stone 10 and 7 stone 13 and 30f. I feel those extra few pounds, it's across my tummy and thighs 😭 I used to wear size 6-8 but mainly size 8. I now wear size 8 sometimes a 10 and 30E or 32DD.

FluentStork · 06/07/2024 18:33

5 ft 2 and 10 stone 5, which is my happy weight. I have quite big boobs/bum/thighs etc and if I weigh less I don’t look good.

Thank you. I worked with an online PT, began an exercise routine, which is mostly walking at least 10k steps per day, downloaded MFP logging everything I ate and started on 1500 calories per day which got increased over time to 1600 then maintained at 1800 cals per day. Changed my eating and drinking habits and did workouts 3 x a week.
I stopped working with the PT after a year and don’t do the workouts now but I still walk every day aiming for around 15K steps per day, do a dance class once a week and although I’m not as strict on calorie counting, I am still careful.

TheDogsMother · 06/07/2024 21:51

5 ft 3 and currently 8 stone 13. I'm a bit lumpy with a spare tyre at this weight and suit 8 stone 5 much better. V difficult to maintain post menopause though.

DamnYerEyes · 06/07/2024 23:47

@Femalefootyfan thank you for sharing. It's inspiring reading yours and other's stories.

slightlybonkersmum · 07/07/2024 00:02

5f 1, 8 stone 13lbs
But large boob's that weight about 9lbs 🤣

Wond3rment · 07/07/2024 00:14

5ft 2.5” here and at my heaviest at the moment at 145lb.

This time last year I was at 134lbs, my preferred weight is 132lbs but I would be content with a return to 134lbs to be honest.

Aged 51 and perimenopause has hit hard this year. Weight, skin breakouts and poor concentration are the key symptoms. None were an issue 12 months ago.

Phoenix06 · 07/07/2024 00:59

153 cms and 8 12 on a good day!

7 12 is a good weight for me and feel OK up to about 8, 3.

Clothes are too tight now and weight has redistributed to stomach over the last few years.

VolvoFan · 07/07/2024 10:18

As I said I would, I'll post my latest weigh in. Last Sunday I weighed 129lbs. I now weigh 126.4lbs. Not bad after a week. Onwards and upwards.

snowballedinhell · 07/07/2024 10:20

I'm 5ft 1 and weight ranges from 7st 2lbs - 7st 7lbs

I'm still flabby Confused
