16:8 and gaining weight

I've always been a healthy weight with a few days of "sensible" eating able to deal with any pounds gained over e.g. Christmas or holidays.

However, this is getting harder as I get older and I have a stubborn 6/8lbs I can't shift.

I'm trying 16:8 and have stuck to it religiously, at the same time eating only good healthy food. Not low fat or low carb, but no refined sugar or other refined carbs, and proper home cooked meals, lots of veg and protein with every meal.

In 5 days, I've gained 2Ilbs!!!

What's going on?

Clearly you have hit a plateau @Parrotcoop

However, I have a friend - in her early 50s - who has tried the 16:8 three times in the past two years, and she never really loses any weight on it! She will drop say 3-4 pounds in 2 weeks, then on the third week she regains 2 pounds, then on week 4 she stalls, then on week 5, she gains another pound, and then on week 6, she loses 2 pounds, then on week 7 the 2 pounds has gone back on again, and so on...

I don't know why she keeps doing it tbh.

I have done the 5:2 a couple of times in the past, and lost one and a half to two stone each time. It was 2 years before I regained some. I am currently on it again, as I need to lose a stone and a half again. I find this diet quite effective. I have only regained some of the weight through my own fault (being a bit lazy - and eating more than I should!)

I don't think I would bother with the 16:8.
