I need to lose about 3st. I do get hungry easily. I would like to be able to have 'treats' and a glass of wine now and then.

I don't want to calorie count. I've been doing it for a few weeks to get an idea of how many Im eating to maintain. But I find it a complete pain and can't face doing it for another day. let alone the months it will take me to lose this weight.

Have done WW in the past but was always hungry on it.

Dont want to do keto or low carb as I like my bread, pasta, potatoes too much!

Not keen on doing IF as I tried it before and couldn't tolerate the hunger.

Any suggestions of a plan that might suit me? I'm out of any ideas!

The No S diet would meet all your criteria. Treats only at the weekends. No snacks, no seconds, no sweets during the week. That’s it. Very simple and you can have what you like for your three meals a day but you have to be strict with the rules.

I would have said read Why We Eat (too much) because I think that’s probably the best way of eating out there with so much information about what is going wrong for everyone but he would advise avoiding wheat so no good if you want to keep having bread and pasta.

You want wine, pasta, potatoes, bread and 'treats'

You don't want to calorie count

Well good luck op!

I’m doing the human being diet by petronella ravenspear. I was apprehensive as it is portion control and I bloody hate that - but actually it’s the easiest diet I’ve done and it’s mandatory (after the first 2 weeks ) to have one treat meal per week where you eat what and how much you like

unfortunately though you are going to have give something up - you can’t be slim and do all the things you list regularly. Wish it was possible!!!

Thank you for this! I followed the No S diet for about 6 months years ago, I had forgotten about it. It was at least ten years ago. I actually enjoyed being on it. Weight loss was slow but steady and it enabled me to manage work trips away, business dinners and so on. The reason I came off it was I wanted 'faster' weight loss for a holiday. 🙄 So I lwent on a far stricter diet, lost some more weight much faster BUT ended up restricting too much and regained.
I will definitely give it some serious consideration as it was so easy and fitted into my lifestyle so well.
BTW, indeed, I've read Andrew Jenkinson and I don't have the discipline to follow it.

I haven't heard of that plan, will do some research. Thanks

Yes, it's possible. I feel like I am almost addicted to starchy carbs but when I tried to cut them out I was craving them constantly. (And sweets)

Switching for carbs with lower GI may help with feeling hungry all the time. They are also simply the only healthy and sustainable long term option for maintaining weight, unlike white bread or pasta.

For how long though, the feeling tends to go off after about a week or so

Or swap them for things like bulgar wheat instead of rice, sweet potato instead of potato (doesnt work for me that one as sweet potato is too sweet for me), lots of lentils and pulses instad of pasta and potato or rice, then once you have swapped for a few weeks, try to lower it more.

PermanentTemporary · 22/06/2024 18:57

I wonder if Low GI/low GL might work for you? I did that for a while a few years ago and found it quite humane, in that you can still have carbs, you just have to pick the right ones. We just bought a low GL cookery book and read a few websites.

itsmabeline · 22/06/2024 19:01

Swap every lunch or every dinner for salad or soup.

CortieTat · 22/06/2024 19:07

I still eat carbs and quite a lot of them, but often experiment with cooking methods and swapping things. The preparation method affects GI a lot, so potatoes baked in the oven will have a higher GI than potatoes cooked a day before and served in a salad. Rye bread has lower GI than the white spongy stuff, and so on.

I’m gluten intolerant and this helps to avoid simple bad carbs enormously, because gluten free equivalents of bread, cakes or pasta taste are barely edible.

People hate it on here because they’ve heard about some weird version of it that isn’t right, but slimming world…

Slimming World might suit you, treats allowed, no calorie counting, can still eat potatoes and rice and pasta...you can eat bread but a limited amount.
I found it incredibly easy to stick to as it was so flexible. People do try weird things to try and cheat with it but if you follow the core plan it's encouraging you to fill up on veggies and protein.
