Can I be bothered?

I'm 66, probably 2 stone overweight. Certainly I stone.
I have wrecked my metabolism and set point by about 50 years of dieting.
I can't do it alone.
Can I face SW....use it just for accountability, ignore the guff. Last time I lost 9 lbs and put on 14. FFS.

Hiya,

I've just started reading a book called "have your cake and your skinny jeans too"

To summarise - it's all about how dieting is bad for you, and to get back into eating when your hungry and stopping when you're full and how diets psychologically mess you up and ultimately make you gain more weight. It's actually a breath of fresh air reading it, it's very relatable.

As someone who's been on some variation of diet or restriction or something for over half of my life, it really is helping me, and I'm only part way through!

I don't want to live the rest of my life on some kind of "diet" it's very miserable! And I've got about 4 stone+ to lose!

Might be worth a try! And SW reaalllly messed up my relationship with food even more so!

Good luck!

I hear you!! I worried I’d really struggle to lose any weight post menopause. I’m doing petronella ravenspear human being diet. Genuinely - about 6 weeks in feels very sustainable. And the pain gain ratio is good. Particularly works to resent your metabolism. I’ve lost about a stone in it in that time

I’ve always done well on WW until it goes a bit wrong and then, of course, I put it all back on once I’m not in the right head space. I’m 64 and have a lot of weight to lose. I’m trying to find a pattern of eating that works for me and so far this year I’m two stone down (it’s a lot easier to shed two stone when you’ve got many more stones to go to get to anything approaching a sensible weight). Routine is helping as the less I need to think about what to eat the less I start thinking about eating the wrong stuff.

Evenually I become resentful and stuff my face. Didn't Susie Orbach say " For every diet there is a binge"

Note she was about 8 stone though!

Funnily enough I was thinking this morning that maybe I should reread Fat is a Feminist Issue. I remember it helping me years ago.

I’m reading Ultra-Processed People at the moment and I do think the type of food on offer is so different now and that has to be part of the problem.

I know why I over eat. MH issues.

That undoubtedly makes things much harder.

eggplant16 · 21/06/2024 15:48

ie I'm not eating because of hunger.
