MFP basic newbie question

Every time I do exercise, it makes my calorie limit higher. Is this how it works or have I got it on the wrong setting? Some days, it allows me 2,400 calories if I’ve done a long walk and some weight training. I’m happy if this is the norm but am I missing something and k need to change settings?!

If you're trying to lose weight then stick to your normal calorie intake.
E.g. if you're trying to track 1600 but after exercise it says you have 1800 left, still eat 1600.

So I can’t eat the extra exercise calories? I’d like to lose weight but my focus is more on not gaining and trying to tweak my macros and increase protein atm

You can focus on your macros but if you're looking to lose weight, you still need to remain within your calories. I'm not an expert but I use a PT and I have a calorie goal, a protein goal and a step goal.
On days I work out ie resistance/cardio, I increase my cals but only by 100-200, not by what MFP guesstimates I've burned and I wouldn't eat the extra from steps/low impact exercise

If you're just looking to maintain, maybe you could eat the extra calories... but MFP isn't going to know how many calories you burn as an individual doing activity so I'd be sceptical about the calories burned number

It’s a trial and error IMO. I use a different app and sometimes I eat back my exercise calories, sometimes I don’t. In general I find my app (Yazio) very conservative with what it considers my maintenance calories. I enter and update my height, weight and age and I assume MFP works the same?
If I only stick to eating my maintenance calories I keep on losing weight and I definitely don’t want to lose any more weight.

Thanks. That’s annoying - I quite liked having all those extra calories!
