I see so many supportive threads on this board but feel like I can never get involved because I weigh so much more than other posters. Or because I’m not doing Wegovy etc so I thought I’d start a thread for any of the bigger women who’d like to join.

I weigh an incredible 22 stone and wear size 20/22 in clothing. I won’t waste our time in explaining how I’ve got to this point but I’m starting to find myself absolutely repulsive. I can’t even walk 2 minutes to the bus stop without getting all sweaty and becoming out of breath. It’s pathetic.

I’ve fallen into a terrible habit of ordering takeout multiple times a week as I barely cook. I know what I need to do. Writing it down is helping me to realise that this can’t go on for much longer, some days I feel as if I’m having a heart attack!

If anyone wants to track their weight journey, show moral support or just come for a moan, please do. I hope we can all do what’s needed in order to live a better and healthier life💃

I’m currently winning at life because I’m under 20st (19st12) 😊
Three weeks ago it was a different story - I was 20st 5lbs - so I think I’m eligible to join …
I’m trying to not diet, I’m trying to nourish my body by treating it to good food. I think this mindset is better for me, because when I’diet’ I quickly get to the point where I’m more or less starving myself and then it all falls apart.

ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch · 03/06/2024 19:56

@igivein amazing, absolutely amazing! It’s so motivating when you see that making lifestyle changes are making a difference. I’m similar in regards to dieting. I find restricting makes my eating more messed up so I’m planning to try and eat much cleaner.

Anything you’ve done in the particular to get into a rhythm of eating food?

I am a similar weight but don't eat the takeouts, I actually eat quite healthily for main meals. My problem is snacking on toast, cereal etc.
I do quite a bit of walking as have a dog but do have back pain after 20 minutes of walking. My weight really started to creep on after menopause and after giving up an active job and now doing a job where I sit or drive most of the day.

igivein · 03/06/2024 20:06

Thanks @ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch I’m doing 30 plants a week, which is really helping. I’m having to plan more to get the variety of plants into my diet and I’m finding some lovely new things to eat.
I think the best thing I’m doing though is avoiding UPFs, as I don’t seem to get hungry between meals (genuinely!).
Anyway, we’ll see how it goes. I’m not expecting amazing progress as I’m post menopause and my body’s determined to cling on to every last ounce!!

igivein · 03/06/2024 20:08

@Miley1967 cutting down on UPFs might really help you. My bread comes out of the bread maker now, it’s much more filling and I’m not craving more 20 minutes later.

ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch · 03/06/2024 21:16

@Miley1967 thank you hopping on the thread! I wish I could be like you with eating healthier (and hope that I can be one day) as I really struggle with food. I also have a job where I’m sitting at a desk all day but I’m very lucky in that I only work two days a week. Walking more frequently is a habit that I’m trying to pick up.

@igivein I read an interesting article about UPFs today at work and it was an eye opener. I never realised just how many things that I eat are packed with all this unnecessary junk. I really want to make it a habit to have fruit or veg with every meal. Hoping I can cut down on the UPFs too but that will only work with meal planning and making time to eat clean.

30 plants a week sounds interesting, I’ve never heard of it! So happy to hear that it’s working for you

If you want to find out more @ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch read Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tullikein, ’it’s a real eye opener.
The thirty plants thing is quite good fun. Any plant counts, so you can count potatoes, but only once. Apples, rice, gherkins - whatever you like, but it only counts once each week. So you end up giving yourself a varied, balanced diet almost by default.

ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch · 03/06/2024 22:13

@igivein the article I read was actually based on that book! Within the article there were a few extracts from the book and that alone opened my eyes, I’ll definitely be purchasing it. Thank you for the recommendation:)

The 30 plants sounds like a great way to bring veg into your meals. One thing I struggle with is knowing what to cook. I’ve purchased cook books and diet books but don’t ever get anywhere. I may try Gousto just to see how I find it

@ILoveFoodWAYTooMuch your definitely not alone lovely! I started my weight loss journey 5 weeks ago today, and since then I’ve gone from 18st to 16st 13lbs. I’ve been doing slimming world (I know it’s controversial on here!!) but I’ve enjoyed my meals and I try to also be savvy with it by controlling and weighing my carb portions. I’m definitely up for a support thread, I maintained this week and really want to eat a giant dairy milk now but have resisted so far!

Mrscharlieeeee · 03/06/2024 22:31

Can I join? 5 years ago I was 23st. Got down to 15.7st, currently 17st which has crept on over the last 2 years. I felt a lot more comfortable before but my ultimate aim is 13st. Hope I'm ok to join! I did it last time with weight watchers and then plain old calorie counting and exercise. I've got out of the habit of exercising and know I need to get back into it.

Maverick66 · 03/06/2024 22:33

Me 😔

I think you are making life very very difficult for yourself.

I have been taking Mounjaro for a few days and the difference is amazing. I have hardly thought of food and haven't had a drink in that time. I haven't missed it, I've literally never thought about it. I had a biscuit today and didn't even think about having more than one. I did feel a bit sick on the first day but that only lasted a couple of hours.

The amount you are spending on takeaways means you can afford this. I paid £125 for a month's supply. Search for it on YouTube and look for podcasts on Spotify. There are tons of people who have been on it a lot longer and have lost a lot of weight.

Think how long your diets have lasted in the past. The beauty of the injection is that it works for you. You literally don't have to do anything, you just do what you want to do which is to eat less food.

I have been on hundreds of diets throughout my life. I can honestly tell you I don't feel like I'm on a diet, I just don't feel like eating very much.

ShrinkingEveryDay · 03/06/2024 22:44

Please can I join? Also 22 stone - miserable and in pain 😢

ShrinkingEveryDay · 03/06/2024 22:45

My username is wishful thinking 😄

Can I ask where you got Mounjaro for £125 a month please? If I have any more maintains then I’m very tempted to try one of the injections!

letthem · 03/06/2024 23:00

Can I join please? 331 lbs 😭😭😭 need to convert that into stones. I'm in so much pain, my feet are a mess, it hurts to do anything

Copperoliverbear · 03/06/2024 23:08

I am 17 stone 7lbs, it has just crept on over the years after having children, I feel over and hurt my knee a few weeks ago and thought enough is enough i need to get back into shape and take the pressure off my knees.
I ordered a healthy shop this week and only some flapjack things with a small amount of chocolate on as a treat.
I have been doing a Joe wicks beginners workout it's only for twenty minutes a day and you get a thirty second break in between each exercise.
I have also joined the local leisure centre and have booked an induction to the gym for Wednesday, I will probably only go to the gym on Friday as I am doing exercises at home and mainly want to do swimming stuff their, I have booked Aqua aerobics for next week and will do so every week and I have booked for female only swimming classes as I'm not a good swimmer ( it's called something like the swim Dr)
I am embarrassed I have let myself get like this, but extremely proud of myself for turning a corner and thinking I can do this, I sure as the weeks go on it will get easier.
If I can do this, we can, we can support each other and we have got this x wishing you good luck x

Copperoliverbear · 03/06/2024 23:17

@igivein I've just ordered the book on amazon Thank you x

@suspiciousmums

I used Bolt pharmacy. The price does go up a bit for the 5 mg dose but I imagine that's true whoever you go to.

Totally agree with you but please do mention that you get a discount as well that way!

The food noise does completely go straight away in my experience. You don't have to think about eating less, you just do. You also feel much fuller than normal so if you did overeat I think you'd be very uncomfortable.

That suits me. It means I can eat half or a third of what I did and I still feel really full.

Listen to the podcasts. Read the reviews on here. it's not like a diet where you have to think about what you're going to have each day. That's the point, you don't have to think about it, you eat what you want but you just don't want to eat very much.

medianewbie · 04/06/2024 07:15

Can I join you please?
Current weight 16st7lbs (heaviest was 20st). Sounds a 'success' but No. Five years ago I was 11.7, so 5st on in 5 yrs.
I eat well but also then add cake & crisps & choc esp late night. I also believe high cortisol & poor sleep leads to weight gain. I have quite a stressful situation which I can't do much about (2 young people with Autism, H left, no family, no £ & I'm a Carer. Disabled too) So to cheer me up, a piece of cake with my tea, a share bag of crisps with Netflix. Suddenly I'm a stone heavier. I'm scared I'll end up 20st again which would be really bad for my mobility.

BigDahliaFan · 04/06/2024 07:23

My sister did this, she lost half her body weight in 2 years. And maintained a 10 stone weight.

she walked 5k a day, every day. Slowly at first. maybe try aqua fit or something first.

she eats normally, by that I mean 3 meals a day, at least half the plate is veg (lots of coleslaw home made with a lime and chilli dressing, no mayo, salads etc). She has lentil soups or bean soup for lunch, with a small bread roll. Eggs on toast for breakfast. No snacking, or if she does it’s an apple or banana.

she’s drastically cut her sugar and white carb intake. But she’s not hungry.

you can do it. But it’s a marathon not a sprint and a lifestyle change.

igivein · 04/06/2024 07:32

It might sound stupid, but I don’t want to use injectables unless there was no alternative. It’s not that I want to be some kind of martyr, it’s just that I don’t like taking medicines generally. (Got to be honest and say I’m not keen to spend the money either 😁)

TeenDivided · 04/06/2024 07:41

A year ago I was 18st 10, I have lost 5 stone in 10 months.
I have done this via strict keto initially, and now more like low carb.
No calorie counting, no feeling hungry, no increase in exercise.
Find it helpful to avoid coffee shops though.

Would thoroughly recommend it.

I have done it in conjunction with seeing a private GP every 2-3 months to keep me focused.
