Kindness Method/ Last Diet - any experiences?

I listened to the audiobooks of both these last year and thought it made a lot of sense but didn’t get beyond actually doing the first couple of written exercises. I’m thinking of trying it again but ‘properly’ (tried so many other diets and plans and feeling a bleak about it all!)

Hi, yes, I really enjoyed it but unfortunately as I was beginning it, my personal circumstances became very stressful and as I always do in times of emotional turmoil, I put dieting to the back burner.

I hadn't finished my That's It Letter, so hadn't got very far at all, but I really enjoyed it and like how it 1) doesn't advocate or mandate any particular type of diet and 2) seems to be aimed at people who know all the theory of how to lose weight, and really want to, but can't seem to make it stick.

I've bought myself a bunch of healthy stuff which arrived over the weekend and was planning on restarting the book (I have the Audible version of TLD) today, so this thread is a good sign that that's what I should be doing!

@SilverDoe sounds very much like what happened to me 😂. I think the problem with all the ‘normal’ diets is that they don’t address my underlying issues with low self-esteem and emotional eating. So I’m hopeful this can help me move forward with those.

have you brought a special notepad or anything for doing the written exercises?? I did a couple last time but don’t remember where they ended up and part of the idea is having them where you can refer to them and add to them (maybe this is why I didn’t get further last time!)

@mysparkleismissing its a book called The Last Diet by Shahroo Izadi. I listened to the audiobook. She also has one called the Kindness Method which is about any issue you want to make progress on, which is similar. She has weight issues herself but has worked with addicts extensively on behaviour change.

This is a good point! I did mine on a word document, so it is easy to have to hand and edit/complete, however my ritual promise to myself was to log my food in a pretty journal I had been saving. I quit that obviously Sad but it's a great organiser in that it is undated, so I can just pick up where I left off.

I do think you are right that we need to make these things as easy as possible to access, no matter what. I as per the advice of the book, when trawling through a couple of my forum usernames and found optimistic posts on weight loss threads, from like 2 years ago! And I am still in the same position... So I'm planning to finish my letter/mindmaps and then save them to my google drive, therefore no excuses about having lost them and needing to restart!

I do feel optimistic about working through it. I'm also starting a therapy self directed course over the summer, which I hope will address the underlying issues. You're right that I think we need a holistic approach and to address those root causes, as we obviously know how to lose weight! If you're anything like me, you've probably spent many years of your adult life intermittently on diets or at least thinking about going on a diet. I'm sick of losing the same 1.5 stone over and over again.

God yes that is 100% me! I first joined weight watchers in 2005 aged 22 and have been losing: regaining pretty much ever since. In my case the heaviest I’ve been is 3 stone more than the lightest I’ve ever been as an adult but most of the time I’ve been within a stone/ stone and a half, going up and down within the overweight BMI range.

I generally think of myself as quite an intelligent and determined person and I’ve achieved lots of things I’ve wanted to in other areas of my life but with food/ weight it is like Groundhog Day!

I have also wondered about doing therapy related to this various times but the cost puts me off (and trying to fit it in). So I’ll be interested to hear if that helps you.

I did my ‘that’s it’ letter yesterday and chose a self care habit to do every morning. It isn’t the most fabulous choice but I’m going to get up when my alarm goes off so I have a little bit more time to myself before getting the children ready for school and am a bit less rushed in the morning around them. Feeling much more positive and in control than I did last week.

Hope you have managed to restart @SilverDoe !!
