Anyone planning on staying on injectables forever?

I’ve been on Mounjaro for 7 weeks. Have lost 20lbs.
cannot get over the change in my life. The weight is lower down the list, it’s the ceasing of the endless food chatter, spending so much time thinking/planning/eating, more free time away from shopping for food I didn’t need, not spending so much money on food I didn’t need! It’s brilliant.
But I notice most folk on injectables seem to be worrying about what happens when they reach goal and maintaining without it. I’m planning on staying on it forever. Am I the only one?? I feel like they’ll prise it out of my cold dead hands before I give it up.😂
Money wise I definitely feel it’s worth it, I save more than I spend in it not buying all the food!

Ozempic became difficult to buy too

I've seen much much more interest in mounjaro

Especially the higher doses

I think you should always plan for the realistic scenario that

1, you will not be prescribed it over 2 years or BMI 23
2, you might run out of spare money to pay for it
3, you could get a health complication from it and have to stop.
4, supply dries up

otherwise you are planning for something that is unrealistic and might not be possible.

this isn’t about the morality of the medication it’s about the real scenario that you cannot bank on any of this NOT happening. So you really do need to plan for and prepare coming off if the very best you can while you have the time

I’m off it and not regained

please dont plan for a fantasy that’s not real

Exactly this. Because one of those 4 scenarios is exactly what will happen to every one of us!

Lying to obtain it and stockpiling it is not going to encourage a change in the guidelines, if anything it will make it worse for everyone

@Menora I read some very sensible posts you wrote once about maintenance after injectibles and you are absolutely right about being prepared for the worst. I wish it weren't true and there would be limitless supplies but I also wish that the likelihood of regain wasn't so likely.

I know it’s shit, it’s just we don’t make the decisions unfortunately so we are beholden to what is available to us, and we have to stay realistic about what’s going to happen

izzy2076 · 02/06/2024 20:25

@Menora and how are you doing in maintenance?

It’s ok I am still losing but very slow now, I only have 4kg till my goal. I stopped a long time ago and didn’t gain it back but this is because I did not revert to my previous lifestyle. This is a forever change you can’t go back to how you used to be. Ever

You sound super sensible - and sane!

@Menora are you perimenopausal? I'm really hoping you say yes, only because I want to know it's possible. I feel it's so challenging once you are. I was very overweight in my teens/early 20s and was able to keep it off for years. I've always lifted weights, eaten reasonably healthy. I hit late 40s, went on HRT and the weight just piled on despite not living a healthy lifestyle. I could lose weight but cutting calories to sub 1400 but could not stick to it and it was miserable. This is why I'm so desperate to stay on this.

izzy2076 · 03/06/2024 06:34

@Menora forgot to add! Well done. That is phenomenal! I remember you saying on a post not to fear food noise and I've taken heed! I guess the take away is proceed with caution, learn to accept being hungry and manage your expectations!?

Menora · 03/06/2024 07:26

@izzy2076 i had an abdominal hysterectomy 3 years ago, i kept my ovaries but this was in part the reason for the weight gain as i was put into chemical menopause months before the surgery (zoladex implants). I am all over the place with hormones as your ovaries will very likely fail within 5 years of the surgery so yes I am classed as peri but I am not in menopause yet as I still get cyclical breast pain but that’s my main sign. I was getting night sweats on zoladex but I don’t get this now.

Yes manage expectations. Don’t fear the food noise because you need to be building up your good habits now while you have the head space to do so. I still get hungry but I know my body so much better now you have to get to know it.

I can’t be the person who has a big boozy night out with no limits, I can’t be the person who has a huge takeaway night with no limitations. I’m a more boring sensible version who will have some of those things very occasionally and keeps the control of what I am consuming. It’s worth it though as I feel great. It might be vain who cares but I am now able to go out when it’s hot, in a pair of shorts and not worry about people staring at me. I don’t feel as self conscious anymore. I can run around with the kids and play and I don’t ache when I wake up in the mornings. My skin looks better and my nails and hair grow really strong so overall it’s a win

Your last paragraph really made me smile! So happy for you.
