Cheat day question

I've recently started healthy eating and running and lost 6lbs so far. Woohoo.

However, yesterday I had a cheat day and weighed myself this morning and I've gone up 3lbs??!?? How can I go up 3lbs in one day when I used to eat like that every day and did not gain that much a day?

Feeling deflated now that I can't even enjoy 1 day off. And like my hard work has been ruined!

It will go back down again, honestly! 😄 That’s why I would never weigh myself after a cheat day, all that temporary water retention, but give it a couple of days and it will go.

Some of it will be extra water. Have a couple of days eating light then you will be back to normal.

Oh that's a relief, thank you! I've been moaning about it all morning 🤣

Unless you overate by 10,000 calories, it's not 3lbs of fat. It's water, food volume, inflammation and it will disappear after a couple of days of healthy eating.

You need to get back on it, drink water and it’ll drop back down again. Weighloss isn’t one line always heading down. I’ve had 2 days off but back on it today. Slightly annoyed with myself but then remember it’s a lifestyle change and it’s not sustainable to never have days off plan so you accept that’s part of the journey and don’t let it turn into a whole week.

Thank you all :)

If you are a lot of carbs and/or salty foods your weight will go up, it's water. It will go back down in a few days. Weight fluctuates anyway, and working out also tends to make the scale temporarily go up.

It’s carbs and salt causing a water gain but in all honesty, cheat days just create more issues so I do not do them. You then start a new week off trying to get back to the weight you were before and then before you know it it’s cheat day again and you are not really moving forwards and then there is cheat day creep where you continue it into the next day (especially if you are hungover) I don’t have cheat days I just put things I like into my normal allowance or have something extra nice but only a small amount of it, so the whole day/evening is not a write off. If you have only just started on a weight loss plan I would scrap them but if you really want to, try to make cheat days further apart so you aren’t at risk of completely derailing yourself. Once every 2 weeks or once a month really until you are settled into a routine, unless it’s a special occasion.
