Stomach massive compared to everywhere else after weight loss?

NC'd as I'm a bit embarrassed Blush

I'm 5'7 and weigh 10stone 10lb. At the beginning of feb, I was 12stone 7lb. I work out twice a week (all I have time for) and have made huge diet changes for this loss. I rarely eat foods heavy in saturated fats that I used to eat before, such as biscuits, crisps, chocolate etc. I do have 1-2 glasses of red wine often in the evening, although recently it's been 1 glass (probably five times a week). I always stay within 1400 calories, usually nearly bang on each day. However, whilst my arms, legs and shoulder area have changed quite considerably, my stomach is still really big. It's not bloated/hard fat as it turns into three big rolls when I sit down/recline. I also do 10000 steps 5x a week and 5000 on the two days when I don't. I am an hourglass shape so my waist has become smaller. I'm now a 10/12, but the fat on my stomach is still massive. Any advice or does anyone the same height mind telling me how much they weigh if they have a small stomach? Thanks Smile I do have 2Dc so don't know if that affects anything. However, it's not loose skin or bloating, just rolls of fat.

This is pretty common. Having lost (and gained) and then re-lost weight a couple of times, I do find that it comes off the limbs first, then it all kind of redistributes and that's when you notice the loss from round your middle.

Keep doing what you're doing, maybe consider pilates or some kind of core work just to ensure you're doing everything you can to keep that area toned and maybe measure waist and hips once a week and see if it reduces over a month?

Also worth using photos to track shape change? Or a tight dress or skirt?

When you say massive just does it feel massive but it isn’t, you just feel self conscious? Have you had kids? It could be loose skin or an apron type pouch? It’s so hard to say. I have a small waist but big hips and I have a very very annoying pouch of something low (bikini line area I think it’s a FUPA) I cannot shift either, from after my hysterectomy and kids. However if your waist measurement is less than half your height that is a healthy thing.

Google a FUPA that’s what I have

wine will not be helping you though you will be bloated and it’s still wasted calories. I’ve read studies on wine/beer contributing to belly fat before I am sure

Do you mean that your abdomen is large? Like a pot belly shape? Is it soft fat or is it bloating? Does it feel firm?
If it is firm or bloated rather than just a wobbly layer of fat, you really need to see your GP and have a pelvic examination to rule out anything abnormal with your uterus or ovaries.

I put on a stone recently all around my middle, unheard of for me as a pear shape but menopause has changed all of that!

I have to say that as I have lost the weight, I went through a stage where it actually looked worse then when there was more fat! It was like this gelatinous role that I could grab 😄and I was so despondent but as I’ve got closer to my goal weight it is slowly getting better. I think unfortunately the stomach fat is the last to shift.

For me stomach fat was definitely the last to go. I'm 5'6" and it wasn't until I got to around 9 stone that the belly went. I'm not blessed enough to be an hour glass shape though so it might be different for you.

Also, if you’ve had kids, check to make sure you don’t have diastasis recti. It’s where your abdominal muscles split and don’t go back together properly. You Tube can show you how to check it at home.

mopeyy · 15/05/2024 13:49

I did the diastasis recti check and it's not that. It's not loose skin either, it's blubbery lower belly fat, if I'm sitting down then it's sitting on my lap.

How is your core? If you stand up straight and push your coccyx backwards without shifting your pelvis, contract your pelvic floor and picture yourself lifting your pelvis up so it creates air gaps in your hip sockets ( you should feel your deep lower tummy muscles activate) does it reduce?
