Hi, I have been thinking of getting gastric sleeve and I am.hoping to get this in the UK. I have looked online and none of the websites actually give you a price.

I am looking for other people's thoughts and views. I don't eat big meals but snack amd graze. I have tried the usual, weightwatchers, slimming world, saxenda, mounjaro but wanting something a bit more longer term.

Any one had it done in uk and have any feedback? Thanks

I had mine done 1.5 years ago, but not in the UK. I've lost 7 stone so far.

Happy to answer any questions x

Tonic are one of the biggest in the UK, around 11k. I’m 3 years out now, best thing I have ever done but it was a lot of money and I wish I’d gone to Europe.

😊 where I had plastic surgery in Lithuania at Fi clinica .

I had mine through BMI hospitals. There’s a helpful FB group regarding WLS.

Heads up if you take out a vitality health insurance policy and pay premiums for min 1 year they will cover 75% of cost for marketing surgery using Streamline Surgical (well respected bariatric surgeons and in this country!)

The reason people advise against Turkey is partly due to lack of follow up. You are not entitled to NHS care for bariatric surgery follow up or complications if you go private and you need follow up for 2 years so you would have to factor in paying for bloods and B12 in the U.K. out of your own money too.

I think this is CCG/GP dependant, I had my surgery in Egypt and my GP has me have 3 monthly blood checks and if there was a b12 deficiency they would give me b12. They have also prescribed me iron and calcium.

Yes the hospital and after care is fantastic. What ever you do, you won’t regret.. WLS was the best thing I have ever done

wherethehouseplantscometodie · 09/07/2024 06:22

@Menora
Depends which way you look at it I guess. Without the surgery I would have stayed obese, with all the associated health issues that came it. Either needing WL medication or surgery from the NHS at some point.

Whereas I self funded my own surgery, had no complications, and just require 3 monthly blood checks...

I'd say I've saved the NHS money, but I accept there are varying views on this

Interested to see you've tried mounjaro - has it not worked for you? A sleeve isn't actually a permanent solution, after time the sleeve stretches, you can still gain weight with eating foods that contain a lot of cals, digest easily etc. If I'd had mounjaro I wouldn't have had a sleeve.Yes I lost 5 stone but after 2 years I gained 2 back so it's all about long term habits and changing them really - yes the sleeve/mounjaro help but it's about changing your food habits for the long term win
