40kg weight loss in a year - is it realistic?

Since January 1st I have lost 10kg through a combination of keto and intermittent fasting, but it has not been easy and I have been a little up and down with it (not yo-yoing as such but just going a bit too mad on treats etc when I have a bit of a break).

Overall I am happy with my progress but I am wondering whether it is likely I can meet my goal of losing a further 30kgs by December 31st.

I have worked out that this would equate to roughly 1kg per week of loss, not taking account of any times when I am more relaxed for special occasions - eg birthdays and weddings.

Is it possible or am I deluding myself?

Also worried about loose skin. So far seems to be ok but I am expecting this to become an issue further down the line. Tips on that would also be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

I think so. A couple of pounds a week seems to be what people would expect to lose when they're dieting. I don't know about loose skin, but I imagine exercise would help you to tone as you go.

Technically yes, you could. However you need to be realistic.

Weight loss is usually quicker the heavier you are - so if it's taken you 4 months to lose 10kg (which is great btw!), I'm not sure it's realistic to expect to lose the remaining 30kg in 8 months.

Don't let that put you off, just try and accept that it's a marathon not a race. Every month that passes you'll be looking and feeling better than the month before. By the end of this year, even if you're not yet at target weight you'll have lost SO much and be so much fitter, healthier and smaller than you are right now.

I work in stones - but my start weight was 15st 2lbs in Jan. Currently 12.5 lbs down, so just over 4 stone left to go to my target weight of 10st 3. I've put a rough timeline in place of July 2025, so 18 months total is my aim.

Loose skin wise, I think a lot of it is luck. But i'm doing toning exercises, lifting weights, staying ridiculously hydrated, exfoliating and moisturising twice a week and taking a top notch multivitamin. And keeping my fingers crossed!

It’s doable to a point but the less weight you have to lose, the harder weight loss becomes. I am on a thread where we all only have 10lbs left to lose and it’s very hard and we are all very stagnant and it is taking a long time

I lost 27kg in 12 months so I would say 25-30 is far more realistic than 40?. You will not lose 1kg every week once you hit a lower weight, I only lose 400-500g a week now… or nothing!

I set myself a goal of 18 months to lose 5st and it looks like that’s how long it is going to take me in real terms.

Don’t let this put you off trying go for it but also don’t push yourself to the extreme eating too little to hit a goal. Rushing and pushing is often what causes derailment whereas slow and steady is more comfortable
