Bariatric Surgery on NHS

Hey, over the last 18 months I’ve been in tier 3 weight management services with my local hospital. After a referral for tier 4 in January I’ve finally been reviewed by the Multidisciplinary Team and approved for bariatric surgery.

The letter says I will be invited to a one off 2 hour group session for bariatric pathway patients but I’m yet to get a date for that (only got the acceptance letter yesterday).

Does any one have any idea how long I might have to wait for the surgery? What kind of weight loss have other had in the first 6 months? What was recovery like? What loose skin do people have?

Hi. I am at the beginning of this process. Was hoping to get Wegovy prescribed by a Consultant as I have an autoimmune thyroid disease so I don’t just want to buy it without seeing an endocrinologist. However, our local commissioning group has not passed it yet even though NICE has.

What is your height and BMI?

Is it likely I will have to weight 18 months for surgery? Any tips on how to quicken the process?

Hey, my BMI is 46. Length depends on what space your local tier 3 provider has on the programme to be honest. My referred awol for a couple of months and then I had to go on a waiting list for group sessions to become available. The group sessions were one a month for 6 months. They finished in December and I had a 121 to discussed next steps in Jan, I asked for surgery pathway and yesterday got the letter to say I’ve been accepted as a candidate.

I wish I had tips to speed it up but to be honest, it’s the natural or the tier 3 programme I think.

My BMI is 39.

Hopefully, I will get some answers in a couple of weeks as I have my first 121 for tier 3. I am happy to pay for Wegovy but I want to see an endocrinologist first because of my autoimmune thyroid disease my GP wasn’t happy to advise. I’m happy for surgery too. I think surgery is the better option for me.

I have thought about going private however, I’ve worked in the NHS and tbh I have a lump stuck in my throat when I can see how the part privatization of the NHS has impacted it negatively.
