Cannot cope with mounjaro nausea

Hi all
Just hoping for some advice as I really don't know what to do.

I've been on mounjaro for 7/8 weeks and I was absolutely fine on 0.25mgs just a bit of constipation. It started to wear off after 5 days so was excited to try 0.5mgs.

Have had 3 doses of 0.5mgs and I just can't continue. The constant vomiting and nausea is making my life a misery. I tried halving the dose for my last one but I still feel just as bad. I drink soooo much water throughout the day but it doesn't make any difference. I feel worse when I eat and have tried just having a bite of something but now I'm avoiding food altogether.
Struggling with work and family life with it.

Should I try one of the other ones? Or give up completely?
I feel like this is my only hope. I'm on the waiting list for bariatric surgery but that will also make me sick so I feel I have no other options.
Of course I have tried moving more and eating less before someone says it!!

That's a big step up dose wise, can you try a lower dose.

Kvec1507 · 29/04/2024 19:35

Meant to say 0.5😫

I mean, I don't mean to be flippant but sounds like it's working by putting you off food. Feeling sick is miserable though. Can you go back to 0.25?

Waffleson · 29/04/2024 21:21

I would go back to the half dose and stick it out - it sounds miserable but probably better than the surgery ? Hopefully the nausea will go away as the levels in your system go down.

Anti depressants I had to take years ago made me like this for nearly a month, but it was necessary for me at the time.

I'll bet the weight is shifting down ward though.

Kvec I’d wait ten days, then take a 0.25 dose. On day 4 I’d take another 0.1 just to top it up, which shouldn’t trigger too many side effects. I’d slowly increase your 0.25 until you are up to 0.4, and then see if you can tolerate the 0.5 in one go.

You will need to buy more needles and track how much is in the pen if you want to do this.

I’m attending a specialist obesity GP here in Ireland and he said it was perfectly fine to titrate the doses up slower if you are having side effects and/or split the dose if you find it wearing off too quick - as long as you don’t take more in total for that week then is recommended (e.g. don’t take .3 plus .3 if you are only meant to be on .5 that week).

Hi OP. My previous GP recently told me that there is no evidence to link perimenopause with a worsening of Autistic or ADHD burnout.

My new GP doesn’t talk shit and is on Mounjaro herself. Maybe look for a new practice?

I'm in the same boat! On 0.5 for two weeks now, and the nausea is rough—manageable at 2.5, but it's grim on 0.5. I have zero energy, constant nausea, and even though I'm trying small bites throughout the day, it’s exhausting feeling this sick. Plus, waking up with severe acid reflux in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning is awful.
I'm hoping the symptoms ease soon, as others in other forums have mentioned it gets better. But I'm debating going back to 0.25, since I lost 5kg in a month on that dose, and it curbed my appetite while still letting me eat two healthy meals a day. On 0.5, the nausea is so bad I can barely manage more than crackers or chocolate—ironically, the only things that help with the nausea but aren't exactly part of my healthy eating goals.
What's frustrating is that after two weeks on 0.5, I haven’t lost any weight, and I just feel drained. My exercise has stopped completely as I just don't have the energy. Some people have suggested switching the injection site from the thigh to the upper arm, but I’ll stick it out until the end of the month and see if it improves. If not, I might drop back to 0.25. I want to enjoy life and food again!

Have you tried asking the pharmacy about something to help with the nausea, they might have some meds to help with it?

Snozzlemaid · 07/10/2024 19:29

Just to clarify the Mounjaro dosages, you start on 2.5mg, then next dose up after at least 4 weeks is 5mg.
If you're struggling on 5mg maybe go back to 2.5mg and see how you get on.

I’ve pushed on through it - I found gaviscon helped enormously with the reflux. Also I’ve heard omeprozole can really help - ask pharmacist

also dry biscuits

Itoldyousoo · 16/11/2024 12:03

Use Kwells.
