5kg loss & feeling ill

I have never lost weight in my life before. Over the past 15 years, I have gone from 70kg to 108kg.

I have just started eating well and exercising. I have lost 5kg in a little under a month. You can't really see it on my body but I feel less bloated.

The problem is I feel ill. My whole body aches, I think from exercising muscles that I am not used to exercise. I also feel feverish. Is this normal?

It's not normal to feel feverish no, but some muscle pain is to be expected. Perhaps you have picked up a bug.

Menora · 29/04/2024 18:28

No I agree fever is not really normal. Do you have a temperature can you take it?
Fatigue can be normal with over doing exercise, get some rest and take some pain relief and see a doctor if you are worried.
5kg is quite a lot in 4 weeks are you eating well or too little?

MadKittenWoman · 29/04/2024 21:28

5kg is just over 11 lbs. Advice is to lose 2-3 lbs a week which would be 8-12 lbs over 4 weeks so that's OK.

I think it's maybe a coincidence, OP, and you've picked up a bug. Muscle pain is normal if you're new to exercise. Are you doing Keto? 'Carb flu' is a common thing in the early days. Get some dieting salts to help with this. It will pass, though.

Thank you everyone. I thought I was dying.

I am doing Keto and the weight loss is normal for the diet.

So I've got the flu. I have not been having enough fluids.

Keto flu is a thing. It's not a painless diet.

Oh I didn’t realise it was keto, im not surprised you are very dehydrated as carbs help hold onto sodium and water to keep you hydrated. The massive loss is likely to be mostly your body losing the water it usually holds onto.

There can be several reasons.
If you are lifting weights and doing strenuous exercise it’s good to have a day’s rest in between. No need to lie flat but doing some yoga and stretching or walking would help, the so-called active recovery.
Second thing. Our body stores some of the so called Persistent Organic Pollutants (or POP) in the fat tissue. Some toxic chemicals stay forever in the environment and in the food chain because they are not water soluble, they are soluble in fat, so they are stored in the fat tissue. DDT is a very good example. If the weight loss is so rapid, the body has to deal with this stuff stored in fat. That’s why it’s better to do this slowly.
