Any tips on losing a stone? (sorry, long!)

I haven't been on this topic before as I'm not quite sure how it works!

Basically, I'm completely fed up with this extra stone that I can't shift. With both my babies I kept on the extra weight (about 3 stones each time) until I stopped breastfeeding, then dropped 2 stones pretty quickly. But the last stone just will not budge, and it's now been 3 years. And now my weight is now starting to creep up as well.

I'd really like to start on New Year's Day and lose that stone, which would get me down to my previous weight and clothes size. The things that are stopping me, as I see it, are:

  • When I cook for the family, I can't resist eating the same as them. After running around after everyone else all day it just doesn't seem fair not to get the same to eat as everyone else, or to have a tiny plateful while everyone else tucks into lovely grub (DH is rake-shaped )

  • When the kids/life is getting me down, I often find myself automatically standing in front of the cupboard nibbling at snacks without even being aware that I've started doing it!

  • I'm doing a college course that takes up every spare second of evenings, etc - and even that only gives me half the recommended hours to do it in. So I simply don't have time to exercise.

  • For similar reasons, I don't have time to cook special meals for myself.

  • I tend to crash-diet and end up feeling weak, shaky and hungry when my blood-sugar goes down, so binge on chocolate, to which I think I might be physically addicted!

I know that a stone doesn't seem like much, but I honestly found the first couple of stones easier than this last one. Given the above, does anyone have any motivational advice - or would anyone care to join me?

I have no scales scaltygirl, but will pop round to neighbours and weigh. Will get scales this week and join you for the nude weigh in on Saturdays.

Had an old friend pop in on Thurs and she had lost 3 stone last year. She looks amazing. Great motivation for me.

Will post weight (gulp) later.

Kisses M

ok scaltygirl to prove my commitment to joining you I am about to do what I never do. I am about to make my weight public. Her scales are a bit dodgy, however it wasn't as bad as I feared. 12st 11lbs (eek). Need to lose at least 2st. So it begins here.

My scales are pretty useless so i tend to go to the big heighht/weight machine in boots but will be up for the saturday morning weigh in. I'm currently around 13stone at 5'6" I put on 4 stone when i was pregnant with dd 3 years ago and never lost it, but I've had enough now and it's got to go!!!!

Well weighed myself this morning on my new scales (well DH bought them for me a few months back as he didn't trust our old mechanical ones and didn't want them to cheat me LOL) and was 9st 10lbs - means I've put on 2 1/2lbs over December - which is great......problem is that although I have to eat a LOT of cr*p to put weight on - if I just eat normally and exercise it doesn't really come off - so I'm actualyl going to have to diet!!! OMG!!

Anyhow, doing well today - no snacks and nice healthy roll for lunch :-)

i'm back to work on tues and hope to lose weight by not being able to snack in the kitchen all day like being a sahm.
has anyone done/seen the paul mckenna diet thingy?

Gwenick · 01/01/2005 14:54

Actually 2 1/2lb for me IS a lot - as I've only really put weight on while pg. I can usually eat like a horse, a pack of crisps a day, couple of chocolates, etc etc and not but anything on - 2 1/2lb is the result of (in just over 1 week), copious amounts of alcohol, whole tub of pringles!, salty snacks and peanuts, christmas pudding, chocolate biscuits and everything else you have at Christmas that's bad for you.

My body is nice in one respect - I DO find it hard to put weight on (apart from when pg when it doesn't care and piles on stones LOL). But on the other hand losing weight also seems to be a challenge for it too LOL
