I didn't know where to post this. It is similar to overeating though .I have maintained a bmi of 22/23 for about 8 years. I lost three stone to achieve this bmi .Anyway I find massive comfort in the above hot drinks (about 20 a day!)When out I constantly need to find a toilet and I wake about 4/5 times a night. This isn't good and I need to cut down .I think it is my way of not overeating .Can anyone share their experience or have any tips or advice. So many thanks.xxxxx

Hello! Well done on your weight loss!
Gosh, I couldn't drink that much tea and coffee. Do you drink decaffeinated versions?

Catsanddogs30 · 01/04/2024 12:21

Thank you fuzzy. Not decaffeinated. Both extremely weak. Always mellow coffee.

Why are you thinking this is a problem?

There isnt that much caffeine in tea, coffee is a bit different I suppose and that might be problematic

Also how big are the cup sizes, you're probably getting through quite a lot of liquid which is a good thing, the advice about drinking 2 litres of water a day, is actually 2litres of liquids a day for good flushing through.

flavoured tea? Green tea? decaffeinated tea and coffee?

I like ginger tea and licoriche tee

The night time waking is the issue I guess. Can you have an evening cut off point after which you have no more liquid? Wouldn’t worry about the daytime .

UpsideLeft · 01/04/2024 12:32

I set myself time limits so I'll make myself look forward to say a cup of coffee when I get home or in 3 hours etc so I'm not immediately reaching for what I want

This morning for instance I was craving something but knew I wasn't actually hungry so told myself I'd have it later

I'm now feeling the hunger pangs so I'm having a cup of tea first then I'll prepare what I was craving

Roobibos tea is often suggested as an alternative to tea-tea as you can put milk in it, colour is similar and taste is not so far away.

I didn't get on with it because of the smell. My mum put her finger on it - it smells of cinnamon. So if you like cinnamon, you might be all right.

Stade197 · 01/04/2024 12:37

Could you try flavoured teas like peppermint, fruit, chamomile etc or lemon squeezed into hot water? I find I drink these kinds of teas slower than a normal tea/coffee so then I don't drink as many and they have various benefits too

Catsanddogs30 · 01/04/2024 12:53

The problem is always needing the toilet .I will try all the suggestions. Thank you.

Roibos tea is a favourite of mine and I do love cinnamon. I would try and vary it a bit. Experiment with other kinds of tea to see if you like other ones perhaps? I drink warm water inbetween tea and coffee as well. It's boring but it kills the craving. I can't drink too much tea or coffee because my bladder isn't great. The night-time waking sounds tough. I couldn't cope with that.

Striving4Better · 01/04/2024 13:37

How about smaller cups?

Still have 20 cups, but in a teacup instead of a mug sort of thing.

Catsanddogs30 · 01/04/2024 16:39

Thanks for the ideas.
