I gain weight SO easily and it's so frustrating. Anyone else the same?

I'm 49 and have had a near lifelong battle with my weight, being everything from 17 stone to 10 stone.

For the two weeks I've been pretty disciplined, eating well, doing moderate exercise, upping my water intake etc and I lost 5lbs. Hurrah. I then went away the weekend before last and had a few treats and drinks. I was conscious of not over-indulging and because we'd also done a lot of walking, I thought I might be ok. But nope, 4lbs gained and 6 days later, I've only shifted 2 of them.

I find it so annoying that 2 weeks work can be undone in 2 days and even though I tell myself 'it's water weight', it really can't be if it takes 6 days to shift.

Anyway, just having a bit of a self pity moment (I know, I know!!) and I'll get my groove back, but wondering if anyone else has the same issue with very easy weight gain?

I don't want to be 'that person' at every family event who takes a lunchbox of carrot sticks and avoids anything they can't scan into a calorie counter. Ggrr! But it seems that if I want to consistently lose weight, that's the only option. Confused

If you gain weight quickly, like 4lbs in 6 days it's not fat. It's purely water weight, extra food in your intestines, increased salt intake. Just return to your diet routine and it will come off. The weight on the scale is not indicative of body fat. This is one of the biggest reasons people give up. They see the scale weight shoot up and the WTF and give up. If the scale weight triggers you, avoid them and just weight in occasionally. Best thing you can do is just get right back on track. Good luck

It’s so annoying, takes me about two months to lose one pound, but can put on a pound in one day!

This kind of weight gain is usually water and food. I have a slow bowel so I can often end up with a build up in my gut (yuk) that I need to take a mild laxative. It’s not actually fat, that takes more than one mild blip weekend out to gain back.

I am often the carrot stick lady though as I am very determined to be consistent with what I am aiming for and that’s ok for me!

I can’t really go back to my old habits of boozy/food weekends but I will have things in moderation occasionally

Agree maybe don’t weigh yourself as much. I do but I also know I will see a loss over a period of 4 weeks, you can’t take the daily or weekly fluctuations too seriously if you are on track for most of the month

This is why I weigh daily when at home - if I've been indulgent and put on a couple of pounds I can deal with two pounds much easier than four or five.

It's a pain to have to be so vigilant but for those of us who gain so easily, and lose so slowly, it's what we have to do!

If you gain weight easily then I suggest you be patient and don't lose hope keep following your diet. drink more water and eat lots of fruits and veggies. eat more salad.

You don't lose and gain that much fat in a few weeks. It's mostly water, stomach content, sodium and glycogen that result in the ups and downs in a few days or in some cases hours.

Weigh yourself everyday at the same time in the same spot and work out the weeks average rather than a moment in time compared to another random moment a few days later.

If the scale stops trending down for a few weeks then you can take action and either up your activity levels, lower your calories or combine those two.

I was away last week an all inclusive hotel, I arrived back home Sunday night, I’d put on 2lb and it’s gone now. It was probably part fluid retention from the flight and a pound of actual weight.
I weigh daily so I can get off any weight that goes on.
I accept that say for example after Christmas I’ll have to eat less for a week or two.
Things do get easier as you get to your goal weight, I find I feel more in control and able to make the decision to have a few ‘naughty’ days and then a few salad days to compensate.
Also there’s a middle ground between carrot stick lady and going really mad on holidays etc.

I’m the same. Lost a stone but put it all back on. I’m low thyroid but that’s an excuse not a reason as it’s under control according to my last test.
its really depressing isn’t it?
Why are we told to drink so much water? Is it just to fill up so less room for food?
Iv never been good at that.

There is no part of you that doesn’t benefit from staying adequately hydrated. It’s not a weight loss tool it’s meant to just keep you hydrated, kidneys flushing toxins, good for your brain and circulatory system. You can drink water to fill your stomach temporarily but this isn’t a healthy way of eating. Water expanding your stomach will signal you are full but it’s short lived as it moves faster than food though your system. I think it’s really intended to be a reminder to stay hydrated as part of a healthy lifestyle but it has been adopted as a ‘diet hack’ - it isn’t a diet hack. It does make you feel better though
