Really struggling on wegovy

I’ve been on wegovy for two months, having just taken the last of the four 0.5mg injections. Early on I had some mid level nausea, low energy and a bit of an upset stomach at times but nothing too off putting. I’ve lost a stone in that time. Since my last injection last weekend I’ve been very unwell with over 15 hours of constant vomiting every 20 minutes and so much diarrhoea I ended up passing blood. I had a migraine at the same time, which I do get regularly, but I don’t normally feel that unwell. It’s actually frightened me how unwell I was. I’ve got the next four weeks of 1mg injections but I daren’t use them.

Has anyone else had a similar reaction and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I stopped taking ozempic because it made me projectile vomit with no warning and it took months for me to recover after my last injection.

@Katrinawaves how long were you on it for if you don’t mind me asking.

You do not need to keep increasing the doses if you are getting results on a lower dose. I would certainly not go higher than you're on now.

Beware that Wegovy can have some quite nasty side effects such as pancreatitis and gallstones so if you continue to be ill I would seek medical advice.

It seems to me you have the following options:

  1. No injection and see how you feel.
  2. Use clicks* on your 1mg pen to keep injecting, but at a lower dose of 0.5 or even 0.25.
  3. Go up to 1mg as planned (personally, I wouldn't do this).
  4. Take advice from your prescribing pharmacy.

I think I would be inclined to go for option 1. Leave it a week and see how you feel. At that point, decide whether you want to go back to 0.5, 0.25 or leave it longer. If you go for two weeks with no injection, you're supposed to go back to the beginning and, in your circumstances, I'd respect that.

You've done well in losing a stone and it would be a shame to stop completely. Although, it's no fun being that ill. The medication does build up in your system and it's possible to have a reaction after several injections, but to go from mild to severe so quickly sounds like there might be something else going on.

If you decide to go back to 0.25, you could always get a 0.25 pen and hang onto the 1mg for later. But it's very expensive, so you'd probably want to be sure you're going to continue if you did that.

I hope you feel better. Your illness sounds wretched.

  • There are click charts around, but you can count the clicks to 1mg, then wind back the pen and click round half or a quarter of that number for the 0.5/0.25 dose.

I experienced exactly the same.
Was fine on 0.25mg and the first two weeks of 0.5. Lost 10lbs. Ordered in (and paid for!) the 1.0mg
Then experienced a week of total misery with dia, nausea, headaches. Ended up with piles and was getting pain in the pancreatic area.
No way was I risking pancreatitis. So that was the end of my journey with Wegovy.
I'll struggle along and hope to lose a pound a week by other means.

I did not feel good the whole time I took it. Gallbladder pains. I also got piles. I stopped taking it and feel a lot better

get well soon

@Katrinawaves how long were you on it for if you don’t mind me asking.

About 3 months. I stopped injecting in March last year and the last time I was sick was early July so it took quite a while to clear my system

Try Mounjaro ? Seems to be fewer side effects from reports of people who have used it

Aliflowers · 20/03/2024 08:33

To be honest Id be contacting your GP or a health provider before continuing on with it. Passing blood is not something to be trifled with. It may be completely coincidental and you caught a bug or was a side effect of a migraine but absolutely no way would I consider injecting an even higher dose at the minute. Contact your GP or the prescibing pharmacy for advice and then if they're happy with you to continue on Id drop right back on the dose.

Im under the care of a consultant for semigluitde use and best bit of advice his assistant gave me was titrate up slowly. So I went up in 0.1mg increments. 0.25 to 0.35 to 0.45 to 0.5 I believe. Yes is took longer to lose the weight but it means less chance of horrible side effects. Remember the medicine has a half life so on your second week of taking it you still have residual medication left from the first week and this builds every week. So even though it was your 4th week of 0.5, this is the highest concentration of the drug in your system so far
