Four stone plus to lose.

I’ve always been an overeater, it’s like I have no off switch once I start eating. Years ago I lost 100lbs by low carb (as I could still overeat) but I can’t do that anymore as can’t bear the thought of experiencing gallstone issues again. I’d like to get more in control,

It’s piled back on since I hit forty and the ravenous hunger got worse at 43/44…I’m slowly trying to reduce portions, reduce snacking on unhealthy things by a lot too. And not get obsessed with scales. Walking more. Taking a good multi-vitamin and drinking more water…anyone wanting to join me on the journey? I’ve even started a major new skincare regime to help my positivity!

Yesterday was a busy, very unexpectedly stressful day, but I didn’t buy junk food in the shop which is a massive win.
Today I’ve had a slice of toast, some raisins, and will make shakshuka and salad later. Eat a banana running around to afterschool activities.

I need to lose same amount of weight.😩

But reading your OP, you mention that you've always over-eaten. Do you think you should consider checking out Over-eaters anon or something similar to get to the bottom of why you tend to over-eat? Otherwise, with the constant 'dieting' mindset, you're just putting a sticking plaster over the issue and not getting to the root cause.

Also, have you had your thyroid checked by the Doc? You'll be heading into peri soon or you may already be experiencing symptoms so might be worthwhile to get a check with the Doc. He/She may be able to give you some advice on weightloss strategies too.

Sounds like you're starting with a good approach tho OP; good luck. 😊

this is me... the food noise is insane i cant stop eating i am 43- it makes me very sad and anxious

JubileeJumps · 12/03/2024 21:20

Same. I am going to have to start treating bad food like an addiction and just stop. I can’t have one treat I eat all of them. I’m so tired and ashamed.

Jelliclecats · 12/03/2024 22:38

@Projectme thanks for your thoughtfulness. I do online OA, it’s helping me accept the painful bits of my life that exacerbated the overeating…but I still have to learn as an individual how to control even with more understanding. No talk of “diets” here, more ways to go forward in life.
Thyroid fine, checked last year.

@Rennypie03 those are words of truth - it makes me sad and anxious too. @JubileeJumps we shouldn’t feel ashamed, at least we try! I think hormonal imbalances can play a huge part too - that’s why Wegovy et al work! So nothing for us to feel ashamed of, but society can make you feel a failure. We aren’t!

Being addicted to food is so hard as you have to eat for survival. I’m teetotal, have never taken any drugs, am even pretty caffeine free but food, oh my.

Tomorrow I’m planning scrambled eggs on sourdough toast, bean & vegetable stew, and pitta and chargrilled artichokes and peppers. More water than today.

Just place marking for now but I'll be back tomorrow to post properly!

medianewbie · 12/03/2024 23:19

Me too x

Gcsunnyside23 · 12/03/2024 23:20

I need to roughly lose this too. I keep starting everyday but struggling to motivate myself and my eating us out of hand. Have any of you found OA helpful? I need to try something as I know I'm definitely eating on autopilot and cannot stop

Jelliclecats · 13/03/2024 10:09

@Gcsunnyside23 i think I really would if I could go to in-person meetings but live very rurally. There are many online groups. I think it helps that other overeaters understand what you are going through, just how very hard it is, the shame etc.
I remember years ago, I was at a healthy weight, but in one weekend I ate an entire thirty pack bag of walkers crisps. The binging and yet truly never feeling full, the attempts to gain comfort, etc, other overeaters don’t judge.

Feeling tired today, will stay in control though…one day at a time hey.

I am like this, sugar is an addiction to me just as wine is for an alcoholic. It's shit but that's just what it is.

I lost over 3.5 stone last year. A friend did well with SW and lost 5 stone and has kept it off so it inspired me. You can't see it as a diet, you have to approach it as a change of behavior/ life. I lose 1lb or a half every week, slowly slowly.

I gave up sugar for a month then joined SW. I eat loads still but it's mindful eating, lots of lean meats, fish and salads and veg. I do it online as I don't fancy the groups and track everything on the app.

I don't buy the ready meals or bars and tbh I haven't had to stop making any of the family foods I used to,I was just eating far too much sugar and bread. Once the sugar is out of your system it stops that constant craving and never feeling satisfied.

Still can't believe I've lost so much and I'm still going as I have some more to lose. I did it for health reasons rather than vanity which I think made it a bit easier mentally.

People slate SW on here but for me it's really worked and doesn't seem like a diet as I'm not depriving myself. I have never been hungry and it's easy to cook for the family still so no separate foods.

I still have sugary things occasionally but it makes me feel like shit afterwards and I'm happy to get on plan again asap.

Oh and I'm over 50 and menopausal so it's possible even with that!

Hope you find something that works OP 😊

Half a day at a time OP. The never feeling full is caused by sugar, try cutting that back/out first before anything else.

Jelliclecats · 13/03/2024 18:27

Quite proud of myself today. Portions at meals sensible and coped with unplanned sugary food…DP bought us both a bakery fruit slice to have with a thermos of tea on our walk. I enjoyed it, but have not let it lead to other food. Learning how to long term have a healthy attitude to food is as important as the weight loss.

Tomorrow is really busy, new kitchen floor being fitted, meetings, school stuff, work, but I’m going to make sure I stop and sit each time I eat rather than eating on the go.

Toast for breakfast with a cup of tea, eggs on toast for lunch, jacket potato and vegetable chilli for dinner.

Have lost 8lbs since last time I weighed about six weeks ago so I’m very pleased. 4 stone 8lbs to lose to get to my ideal weight - or 3 stone 8lbs would get me to healthy BMI.

Well done!!

Look at the thread called 'unexpected results of weight loss' on here,I think that's what it's called. It's pages long and really inspiring. Lots of things people can do now they are smaller. It's a great read 😊

Jelliclecats · 14/03/2024 18:16

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor thank you, how are you doing? Love your username by the way. I think that thread sounds perfect for me to look at.
I remember years ago knowing a woman who owned a stables but her weight meant she could no longer ride…she lost six stone and started competing again herself, it was brilliant to see.

I definitely feel less sluggish ( even on my worse fatigue days) and try to remember that overeating has never once made me feel good but eating mindfully does.
I hate thinking my children may have the difficulties with food I have…my Mum struggled all her life too and died too young…the primary aged ones are slim and my sixteen year old is medium, seventeen year old son is thin, but twenty year old DD has struggled with weight gain since start of puberty.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2024 19:11

I still marvel that I can cross my legs comfortably let alone ride a horse 🤣

Jelliclecats · 14/03/2024 20:15

Ten years ago when I lost 100lbs, I thought there was absolutely no way I’d be a statistic - a yo-yo dieter - no way I’d be so daft as to pile it all back on, I was so content!! But an unexpected and shocking bereavement, three pregnancies, and simply my life happened and I put over 70lbs back on.

I hadn’t gotten to the root of my food issues. And this is what I’m trying to do now.

Tomorrow it’s eggs for breakfast, vegetable and bean stew later as I’m loving it at the minute and find all the chopping relaxing, and chicken with mushrooms and artichokes. Must drink more.

Good day here, done plenty in the garden so exercise is definitely ticked. Not hungry at all but really fancy a cuppa and a kitkat - period due anyday - I’m trying to work out if it’s better to have one and actually stick with one like sensible eaters (can’t see that being a problem today) or just do without. It is unnecessary sugar after all.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/03/2024 15:57

Get yourself a bottle of chocolate sweet freedom ,it only had apples sauce and cocoa in it and a tiny amount of oil, 13 calories a teaspoon- squirt of that on some greek yoghurt is brilliant for keeping cravings at bay.

Personally I would suggest it's a bit early in the game for 'just one' kit kat but that's just because I can't stop at one myself!

Jelliclecats · 17/03/2024 08:41

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor i think I tried that sweet freedom years ago, thanks for the reminder. And yes, I think I have a long way to go until I can have one of something where the rest of the packet is still available in the house. I had all five kitkats and then skipped the next two meals to compensate at least calorie wise. But seriously do not want to do that again.

Today I’m gardening and taking the children swimming, not at all hungry at present just thirsty but plan to have a good lunch and a good dinner.

Oh never mind, draw a line under it and move on. You're doing really well 😊

Rennypie03 · 07/04/2024 20:17

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor your posts have inspired me. Thank you. I'm joining you ladies here

@Jelliclecats I'm 43. I know exactly how you feel. The binging was unreal. Super weird. I also planned to join over eaters anonymous but then I felt super embarrassed. I weigh 225 pounds🤐🙈

But I am now focused and started to eat less

Rennypie03 · 07/04/2024 20:17

Also how are you ladies getting on??
