How much weight in 12 weeks?

mumof1littlebun · 10/03/2024 09:51

How much weight do you think it's possibly to lose (in a healthy way) in 12 weeks? I currently weigh 15 stone

marywana · 10/03/2024 10:25

Half a stone would be a healthy loss I think.

TheWood · 10/03/2024 15:03

I would say one stone. What is your plan?

TeenDivided · 10/03/2024 15:05

12-24lb dependent on lifestyle?

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 10/03/2024 15:05

If you stick to it consistently then on average 1lb a week some weeks will be 2lb other weeks nothing or small gains.

Watchkeys · 10/03/2024 15:10

It's a bit of an odd question. Healthy weight loss is 1-2lb per week. So 12 - 24lbs.

Obviously, if you stopped eating for 12 weeks you'd lose more, and if you also ran a marathon a day, you'd lose more still.

Do you want to lose weight healthily, or is this a rhetorical, 'how much loss is possible' question?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/03/2024 15:17

Six weeks ago I was 90kg, now I'm 87kg. I'm pleased with that.

marywana · 10/03/2024 15:20

Also depends on what you're planning as far as diet and exercise as well as your age/menopausal as hormones play a bit part in it too. Best of luck and hope you lose whatever your goal is Wink

mumof1littlebun · 10/03/2024 18:22

Thanks for the replies

Not sure why it's an odd question @Watchkeys? I know what the average is but I suppose what I should have really asked for was other people's experiences and results

OP posts:
mumof1littlebun · 10/03/2024 18:24

@marywana I am 39 and currently my diet isn't great, too many snacks and processed foods so hoping cutting out the rubbish will make a big difference, at least initially

I don't do any exercise either so again I'm hoping just doing anything will give me a boost

marywana · 11/03/2024 08:31

@mumof1littlebun I would guess (based on my own experience) that if you do that half a stone is realistic. Might be an idea to add a bit of walking. Every little helps Smile

soupfiend · 11/03/2024 08:38

You dont say how tall you are but at 15 stone, if you're average height then you're very overweight/obese so the weight will come off quickly in the first couple of weeks giving you a good start

Dont be discouraged in the following weeks when the loss drops significantly or even some weeks no losses. Keep on and over time it will catch up with you.

I would say, if you can aim for 2lb a week that is realistic. Prepare all your fridge and freezer space and clear the cupboards though, plan what you're going to take to work etc, how are you going to manage weekends. The prep and mindset is what will do it for you.

mumof1littlebun · 11/03/2024 12:21

@soupfiend I'm 5' 5" sorry should have said as it's all relevant.

Yes I want this to be a lifestyle change so know it is going to take time. I used to be very slim but a combination of having children and then pnd made me put a lot of weight on 😕

We are going on holiday in 12 weeks and while I know I'm not going to be the weight I want, I want to feel as good as I can

Lunab18 · 11/03/2024 16:41

OP I started Mounjaro last week, I weigh 15 stone and have a holiday in 11 weeks.
I’m hoping to lose as close to 2 stone as possible using Moujaro and increasing my exercise. I’m on day 5 of a minimum of 10,000 steps a day with a one hour walk. Will start to add in some peloton work outs soon.
Good luck x

MattDamon · 11/03/2024 16:43

I lost 2 stone in 11 weeks. I did Slimfast shakes twice a day, plus a healthy 600 calorie meal for dinner. I swapped over to calorie counting after to lose the remaining 3 stone.

thepurplepickle · 11/03/2024 17:06

I started out with similar stats to you- about 5 foot 6 and weighed in at 15 stone 1lb. I started to see a personal trainer twice a week as I was getting so fed up with how unfit and rubbish I felt at 50. He created a basic plan for me food wise based on increasing my protein and veg intake. My diet was very poor before so the weight has been coming off quite easily (so far). In 12 weeks I lost just over 2 stone but more importantly 8cm from my waist and 10cm from my hips. I know this is for the long term so had to focus on lifestyle choices and this is the first time I have been able to stick to something longer than a couple of weeks.

Gowlett · 11/03/2024 17:10

Up to two stone, if you followed Slimming World or similar.

suki1964 · 11/03/2024 17:58

Ive been losing at a pound a week on average , some weeks up to 3lb, other weeks nothing , its been slow as A - post menopause and B, I want to make this about learning healthy habits that I can maintain. I dont ever want to get as big as I was again and I dont want to go on a diet . So although I do go along every week to SW, Im pretty lax on following the plan to a tee every single day. This weekend I went off the rails totally, now Im back on plan and hope to be for the rest of the week.

Mostly its getting the veg in, getting the protein in, and going easy on the dairy. The only things I have had to cut totally - white bread and butter - my triggers, cant stop at one slice

I dont see it as a diet at all, just training myself to make healthier choices which I now mostly do and if I dont, well thats ok, I just draw a line and get back on plan

Some people will have lost a lot of weight very fast, and some won't. If you do exactly what they did, your weight loss will likely not replicate theirs. If you're looking for a lifestyle change, just do it, and let your body respond in its own time. You won't 'feel good' about a lifestyle change if you're simply looking at the scales, because you want the change to support maintenance of, or even a gain in, lean muscle mass.

Hello, has anyone had success in losing weight quickly by cutting out bread and only eating one meal a day so dinner in the evening? I have three stone to lose ideally by the summer and im really struggling

2024istheyearforme · 12/03/2024 18:43

I would expect a 2 lb a week weight loss if done right so thats 2 stone but allow a 1 lb weight loss here or there and sometimes plateus happen. bodies are wierd

TowersOfBooks · 12/03/2024 18:50

5 foot 5 here too.

I was 17stone 10 at about Christmas. I'm now 16 stone 0

Jan 1st, I started Zoe. Never eaten healthier. I hated the app, hated doing the recording and admitting how crappy my diet actually was. It was like staring at the sun. Now I'm loving the app, and I enjoy the analysis of the week and the recipes in the app

Tigerstripe20 · 12/03/2024 19:23

I am on week 9 of the NHS 12 week calorie counting plan , it is a free app .
You do need to put the work in each day to input your calories, after a lifetime of dieting this suits me .
I was 15 stone now 13.11 .
DH and I are doing it together he was 16 stone he is now 14.7 .

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 12/03/2024 20:42

Just to show how inconsistent it is here's my daily weigh in graph from 1st Jan to yesterday. 4 day break 19th Feb when I went away for a few days and didn't calorie count or weigh, put on 5lb in a week then lost it the next, so pretty much all water and salt.

How much weight in 12 weeks?
ForeverFat24 · 12/03/2024 21:21

I've lost 17.5 lb in 9 weeks. However I'm very overweight at 5"5 and my start weight was 19st. I'm not sure of ots true that the bigger you are the more you lose in th beginning. My losses have been steady and slow. I walk 10,000 steps every day and follow slimming world (although I allow myself some treat days as id definitely give in and binge). I've found it's self discipline and small changes that make the difference. Not cooking in oils. Filling up on low calorie high volume foods such as veggies. I've not been "all in". I feel if I had tried harder because I admit I've had off days that I could have lost more. My goal is 80lbs total loss with a view to more if I can get that far. Do not underestimate the power of upping your steps. I don't do any exercise apart from walking and some weeks where I've fell off the wagon and ate like crap I've still managed to lose 1-3 lb purely b cause I'm burning calories.

That is not sustainable. After years of yo yo dieting and starvation diets.. you will be hungry and you will not b able to sustain that weight loss. You will most certainly lose weight yes but you will like it back on plus more because you cannot sustain that unless you plan on your one meal a day being 1000 cals plus.
