Hello

I'll start by saying I know if I did low carb or something like The Cambridge Plan, I'd lose weight. Unfortunately those plans make me anxious and have insomnia, due to the lack of carbs.

Of course I crave carbs, I try to minimise but I get carried away.

A few years ago I saw an Endocrinologist at Nottingham QMC, he spoke to me like he had scraped me off his shoe, scoffed at my comments that I'd tried other things such as acupuncture. Openly laughed at me. dismissed my concerns like he was too busy to even see me. Kept shrugging and smirking in front of his male colleague who was observing. He was awful, I cried all the way home and really I should have made a complaint.

Thankfully I no longer live in Nottingham so I will hopefully never have to se him again! However I am now perimenopausal and struggling with weight gain.

Has anyone successfully lost weight in their 40s with PCOS without starving themselves??

Could you reduce carbs but not totally cut them out? Am managing to lose weight on 80-100g a day.

I've PCOS, type 2 diabetic and going through menopause....the only way I lose weight is lower carbs. My limit is 100g so not too low, although tend to be around 80g a day.

Agree with posters above./ I try and limit carbs where I can and track using mfp. It's the only way I can consistently lose weight these days at 47. I up my protein instead and rarely feel starving so I am hungry coming to to meal time which is what it supposed to be the case really .

When you limit carbs you need to eat until you are comfortably full. And eat a full meal again when you get hungry. You should never be hungry on low carb, otherwise you just snack on carbs.
Sit down a write down a meal plan that is low carb, and eat those meals when you are hungry, irrespective of time of day. And do not eat if you are not hungry, no matter what time of day it is. Forget about calories and aiming for weight loss, just eat good healthy food that will sort out your PCOS and the weight will take care of itself.
Good luck!

Swap carbs for beans and pulses and lentils. It’s amazing what a difference it makes.

Instead of a tuna sandwich, gave tuna and black beans.

Instead of curry with rice, have curry with lentils.

There are so many swaps you can do.

Have you tried a flash glucose monitor? it’s a very fast way to see how your diet affects your blood glucose. You can get them from Abbott online.

Watch this guy, he’s great and shows how he reacts to different foods. You’ll be different to him but it’s a good guide.

Best of all do the Zoe program. I’m never hungry anymore.
