In a jam jar I put a scoop of oats, teaspoon of chia seeds, scoop of Greek yoghurt, oat milk and a teaspoon of raw honey (local supplier so no sugar added).

I'll be adding 2 chopped strawberries to it.

I'm trying to be healthier and would like to lose weight.

I am clueless.

I'm always hungry and craving carbs foods and sugar.

I would need more than a scoop of Greek yogurt. I'd need 120g ish. I'd also want loads more fruit. And depending on the oats maybe more of those! Do you need honey with strawberries for sweetness? If you do I personally would keep it.

Basically the portion id want and need wouldn't fit in a jam jar.

I'd skip the oat milk if it's shop bought as it's ultra processed with oil and stuff in it. Otherwise looks good!

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 18/02/2024 11:53

How big is a 'scoop'?

Is the Greek yoghurt 0fat?

Doglegs · 18/02/2024 11:55

I like the 0 per cent fat Greek yogurt. Just as much protein and filling. Check the ingredients. Shouldn't be anything except milk in there

NigelHarmansNewWife · 18/02/2024 11:58

Without knowing what else you are consuming in the day no one can say. The only way to lose weight is to have a calorie deficit. You need to accurately weigh and measure everything in order to know how many calories are in it. There is nothing wrong with carbs as they are a source of energy. Protein and fat take longer for the body to process so can make you feel fuller for longer.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 18/02/2024 12:00

Btw honey is mainly glucose and sucrose, i.e. sugar.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 18/02/2024 12:01

Now I'm watching what I eat I need a filling breakfast.

This morning I had

60g 'healthy benefit' cereal from Aldi
150g 0% fat honey flavour Greek yoghurt on top of the cereal
A large banana

And a cuppa

305 calories.

The only way I can lose weight is to count EVERYTHING in and out.

waistchallenge · 18/02/2024 13:23

Strawberries are completely out of season at the moment so I'd probably have frozen berries.

Apart from that, oats, chia seeds and yoghurt is not a combo I've heard of before. Is it good?

OldTinHat · 18/02/2024 13:30

I had my usual 0% fat gut health yogurt today and a banana but have realised that's probably way too much sugar.

This popped up on my news feed this morning and will try it. Michael Moseley loves oats, so...?

oooh, baked oats sound nice.
I have oats, plant milk, peanut butter powder, protein powder, cinnamon, grated apple and raspberries with sugar free salted caramel syrup on top!
Mine comes to about 500cals but I find if I eat a really substantial breakfast Im way less likely to overeat later in the day.

Yes, it's Barista oat milk. No good?

The scoop is about 100ml sizes cup. I put a scoop and a quarter on of the oats and greek yoghurt - Tesco finest as I like the taste.

Where do you buy yours?

I really like it - it's very pudding-y

Catsfrontbum · 18/02/2024 15:12

Sounds nice. Maybe add a banana for volume.

depends on what else you’re eating though through the day?

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 18/02/2024 15:49

That's quite calorie dense for breakfast.

132kcal for the yoghurt
379kcal for the oats
50 ish for the bit of oat milk
30 ish for the honey
15 ish for the strawberries.

606kcal in total and it's only breakfast!

Have you worked out your calorie deficit?

To lost 1lb in a week you need to eat/work off 3500kcal more than you consume.

DelilahBucket · 18/02/2024 15:51

If you are trying to stop sweet cravings you need to stop eating sweet things. Replacing processed sugar with honey and fruit isn't going to help. It's all still sweet.

MissyB1 · 18/02/2024 15:53

Just make a bowl of porridge with semi skimmed milk and chuck a load of seeds in followed by a handful of blueberries.

Is it actually greek yoghurt or just 'greek style'

The protein contents vary massively between the two. Protein is what you need to be focusing on to keep you full.

As a PP said, I really only lose weight if I'm tracking as otherwise I'm not necessarily very mindful of eating things.

For context, you can have a wetherspoons traditional fry up for only 150 ish kcals more.

Gymmum82 · 18/02/2024 16:05

I’d have 40g oats, 100g natural yogurt and a handful of berries. No honey. No seeds. That would be roughly 300-350 calories give or take

Yep. And a teaspoon of it is about 20 calories. Not really worth stressing about, especially as it's coupled with some fibre in the seeds etc.

She’s trying to lose weight though.

Easterness · 18/02/2024 16:39

I'd have the yoghurt with a choppped up apple and blueberries a sprinkle of canderel and a good shake of cinnamon

Watchkeys · 18/02/2024 16:41

We crave things we're addicted to. Not sure what you mean by no added sugar: honey is sugar dissolved in water. Kind of the bees to do it for us, but that's what you're doing: making yourself a sugary breakfast, which will perpetuate your cravings.

Tenmus · 18/02/2024 16:43

Your breakfast contains a lot of carbs and sugars. This will lead to you craving more carbs and sugars. You can address this by eating more protein and fats. E.g. replace the yogurt with full fat Greek yogurt, add nuts rather than honey etc.
