Weightloss stagnated already - any tips ?

Hi ,

I've been trying really hard with my diet past month. However the past 2 weeks I've lost nothing. I've recorded everything and been within the calorie limits on nutracheck.

Been going to the gym, increased my protein and drinking more water. Any ideas where I'm going wrong ?
Any tips ?

So far I've only lost 10lbs, currently sitting at 14st 9lb. I'm 38 so I'm guessing that's what's working against me ?

Sometimes it happens. Switch up your exercise routine ...what r u doing st the gym?

MagpiePi · 18/02/2024 10:34

Hormones, or eating salty foods so you retain water, or putting on a bit of muscle mass?
Do you notice any changes other than weight, like slimmer limbs?

Hundredthmillionthdiet · 18/02/2024 10:49

I'm aiming for the gym 3 times a week with one of those sessions a pt. I do find it harder to push myself without the pt but I spend an hour between cardio and weights.

Been taking measurements and slight difference but only minimal I would say.

Just thought it was a bit early to be experiencing this would have expected it in a few months 😭

Are you eating back the calories supposedly burned through exercise? How have you decided how many calories to have each day? Are you weighing, measuring and recording what you consume accurately? Where are you in your menstrual cycle?

Spectre8 · 18/02/2024 13:15

I wad wondering what kind of exercise...just cardio? Weights?

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 18/02/2024 13:36

You say you've been dieting for a month, lost 10lb and stagnated for 2 weeks so you lost 10lb in the first 2weeks?

That's high and 10lb in a month is a lot of loss, 1-2lb a week is the expected amount if you're eating 500calories deficit.

Just keep doing what you're doing and the scales will catch up, weight loss isn't linear, it will go up and down and will take months and months so you need to patient.

Eat at a deficit but not too low, max 500 below your BMR
3 x 30 min exercise per week
Plenty of water
Plenty of sleep
If you have a bad day, start again the next day don't give up.

I've said a month was beginning January. Which is closer to 6 weeks.

I've put my details into nutracheck and it tells me how many calories to eat.

Just frustrated cause I weight and count everything. I don't add extra calories to my day from exercise. I don't have a smart watch so wouldn't be able to calculate.

Would have thought I would have lost something over past to weeks instead of staying the same.

You just have to be patient, weight loss isnt linear, some weeks you wont lose and some might show a gain, this is natural, you wont lose every single week.

If you are sure you are in calorie deficit then it will come off on the scales at some point, just carry on doing what you're doing

Hundredthmillionthdiet · 18/02/2024 14:22

Thank you. My lo wanted mcdonalds for lunch. Was so pleased that I was able to just order hers and then I've had a healthy soup when we came back home. Just need to take it day by day.

A month is barely time to make any conclusion about trends in your weight.

How often are you weighing?

xyz111 · 18/02/2024 16:43

Keep going, this is where most people give up. But keep logging your calories and the weight will drop again.

xyz111 · 18/02/2024 16:44

I remember reading that if you don't lose anything in 6 weeks, then to review what you're doing. Especially as women, we hold onto water weight more at certain times of the month etc.

Hundredthmillionthdiet · 18/02/2024 17:21

Would having a coil affect it at all ? Currently do not have a period at all.

OP posts:
Harrysmummy246 · 18/02/2024 17:25

What type of coil?

What type of coil?

I can't remember the name but it is a hormonal one. One that lasts 6 years . Not mirena.

Oh dear god, these types of threads infuriate me. You’ve lost 10lbs in 6 weeks which is bloomin amazing. Weight loss isn’t linear, your body doesn’t know it’s supposed to lose a set amount of weight just because one calendar week has passed! If you lose a lot in the first couple of weeks it sometimes needs a bit of time to readjust and therefore you may have periods of seemingly nothing before you have another whoosh of fat loss. Just hold the line and carry on what you’re doing which has clearly worked.

ArtfulDawn · 11/03/2024 21:49

This is really common, the body doesn't like to release the fat stores - from a primitive viewpoint it's stored energy for things like famines! Often people can have a sticking point even for 6 weeks. This is the time to double down on consistency and focus, be kind to your body and trust the process. And maybe record all your food if not doing that already - I found that to be super helpful to experiment with things to change if the sticky point didn't shift.

ArtfulDawn · 11/03/2024 21:51

I also got a great tip off a podcast recently - look at your data. As another post says it's not linear. Each new low shows the direction your body is going in and is to be celebrated. Pay attention to those + your averages to see if you're tending down. Sometimes looking at a few readings gives the impression your plateauing when a weekly average reviewed over time shows a trend down. Good luck!
