Healthy breakfast

What do naturally slim people or those who have lost a lot of weight eat for breakfast?
I love breakfast but now I'm trying to make better choices I'd like to know what is a healthy breakfast. I'd love a bowl of fruit with yoghurt but that's just a lot of sugar. Two slices of toast with butter? Is that better or worse than fruit? What other options are there?
I can't bear porridge or oats so that takes out a few options that I know are healthy.

I workout a lot ( and tends to be mornings) so I actually have two breakfasts.

Protein smoothie early before weights
Kefir, half a small banana, protein powder and spinach ( frozen)

Breakfast 2 - fat free Greek yoghurt ( fage) with other half banana, tablespoon oats, cinnamon, pecan nuts (2), teaspoon flaxseed and frozen blueberries

Hensintheskirting · 11/02/2024 10:27

Yoghurt and fruit isn't full of sugar if you have good yoghurt. 0% fat Fage with blueberries for example. You can have 120g which is a healthy portion and has no fat but 12g protein. Add a spoon of chia seeds or oats the night before and leave them to soak.

Nothing wrong with yoghurt and fruit at all, especially greek yoghurt which is higher protein (not greek style)

A tablespoon of Greek Yoghurt, a handful of berries, a sprinkling of homemade granola, with a dash of cinnamon.

Two eggs cooked to your preference.

Do you actually eat just a tablespoon of yogurt or is this a typo?

StoneTheCrone · 12/02/2024 07:52

A VERY large, heaped tablespoon!

TeachesOfPeaches · 12/02/2024 07:56

Eggs! Boiled, scrambled, omelette with vegetables etc

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 12/02/2024 08:40

Thanks @StoneTheCrone, I'll try that as a side to eggs; yogurt and granola is so delicious I struggle with portion control!

Sierra26 · 12/02/2024 09:32

@StoneTheCrone @CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment the yogurt I eat is so thick I could basically get the whole tub to come out on one tablespoon so I can relate to this unit of measurement 🤣

StoneTheCrone · 12/02/2024 18:12

Precisely! You practically have to dig it out! 😆

Synergies · 12/02/2024 18:16

You need things like protein, fibre and whole grains. Apparently. I tend to subscribe to the French approach to breakfast 🥐

Not true… Greek yogurt is low in sugar and high in protein. A hand full of blueberries topped with Greek yogurt is a great low carb breakfast and is fairly filling too.

KirstenBlest · 12/02/2024 18:29

Cooked breakfast, not too much carbs. Scrambled egg on wholemeal toast or an omelette is great.
Worst breakfast - carefully measured portion of cereal and low fat milk, you'll be hungry mid-morning.

I hope you mean the old fashioned type of tablespoons and not the 15ml ones or it's very disappointing 🤣

BarelyLiterate · 12/02/2024 18:41

Fruit & natural yogurt, or weetabix with semi-skimmed milk.

On cold winter days, I will have porridge.

Illpickthatup · 12/02/2024 18:43

This morning I had shreddies with oat milk, a banana and a soya latte.

That's a pretty typical breakfast for me. I'm a size 6/8.

I also sometimes have a cinnamon and raisin bagel with peanut butter, porridge, beans on toast.

Im glad someone has mentioned this, I use my big old metal tablespoon which is the size of a small pot.
Is this cheating when Im weighing things out I wonder......

I cant believe how small those measuring spoons are

EllaPaella · 12/02/2024 19:09

I'm slim/healthy and do quite a bit of exercise so I do eat breakfast most mornings (although some days I don't if I'm up super early for work and rushing around). I have either a banana chopped up with some greek yogurt, blueberries, raspberries and pumpkin seeds with a drizzle of honey over the top or a slice of wholemeal toast with peanut butter.
If I don't eat breakfast I have a latte around 10am which gives me a boost until lunchtime.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/02/2024 20:43

‘Go to work on an egg’…….an old advertising slogan from the 70s or 80s I think but it really works. I have 2 eggs and crisp breads each morning now, rarely a pang of hunger before lunchtime.
That or the full fat Fage Greek yoghurt - high protein is what you want.

henlake7 · 13/02/2024 14:02

I love breakfast, so much I have 3 a day!
no 1- shredded wheat with prunes, plant milk and sugar free salted caramel syrup.
no 2- oats with PB powder, choc protein powder, grated apple, plant milk and raspberries.
no 3- strawberries and blueberries, soya yoghurt, home made granola and syrup.

Most important 'meals' of the day IMO!
