Is my breathing normal??????

I am overweight. Exactly 20kg over what would make fall back into the bracket of a healthy bmi. Currently I'm in the obese category. I hardly exercise and yes I'm not eating great but believe me when I say I want this to change.

Can someone please advise me are these considered "normal" when being overweight or could there be an underlying issue?

• easily out of breath
• I sweat very quickly even if I'm just walking. I'm very quickly hot and tired and struggling to keep a normal breath.
• my legs hurt when I do walk
• I'm always really hot and even more so when it comes to the time of the month.

I'd appreciate any advice. Doctors always tell me to just lose weight. I'm 32 years old.

It sounds pretty normal for someone who is obese, and it actually improves pretty quickly when losing weight.

I've been losing weight since 1st Jan, 16lb down so far so not a huge amount lost yet, I do a couple of Aqua aerobics sessions a week now and try to walk more but not a massive amount of exercise and my resting heart rate, walking heart rate and respiration rate have all decreased, my sleep has improved too. I still feel warm most of the time but I still have a thick layer of blubber so that's not surprising.

I think it is normal if you're obese, but it could be worth getting some blood tests to rule out simple things - being anaemic, low on vitamin D, or having a thyroid issue can all cause breathlessness and fatigue on exertion.

Honestly, I have just been hit with a surprise diagnosis of severe heart failure with symptoms like yours. I would get it checked out by a doctor not by randoms on a forum. Whether or not it’s normal for someone obese, it’s not healthy. Get it checked.

It might be more to do with hardly exercising?

I’m 25 kilos over the top end of a healthy BMI and my breathing is fine, but I do a fair bit of exercise.

Although having said that, I also wasn’t having problems like you describe when I was 15 kilos heavier than I am now and doing hardly any exercise (so 40 kilos overweight and sedentary).
So it’s probably sensible for you to rule out anything more sinister with your doctor.
