Where to start

I've asked my GP if I can be put on the NHS digital weight management programme and they have agreed I fit the criteria and have referred me . However they don't know how long the waiting list is.

I am 92.2kg and want to start now so if its a long wait I've not lost my motivation to start.

My biggest issue is lack of exercise, as I WFH and the weather has been so miserable I've done very little for quite some time.

So, where shall I start? I don't eat large portions - in fact, I often eat only 2 meals a day, but its not low calorie stuff and I often have sweets and chocolate.

I suspect I know what you are all going to say - get moving and cut out the sweet stuff (exc fruit). I'd be interested in any advice you have getting started.

Hello! That’s wonderful that you’re starting the process.
I absolutely love the book, How Not To Diet by Dr. Michael Greger. I dropped three stone in six months and have easily kept it off. It’s an incredible resource. He is a scientist who has researched and collated all the diet studies he can find to put together the ultimate health plan tips.
I also love the BBC documentary about ultra-processed foods by Dr. Chris Van Tulleken.

I hope this helps

Fab. I'll get the book.

My weight, whilst high, is stable. I know its going to be difficult to lose because many angles I am pretty good at. I'm really going to have to go in hard on the areas I'm not good at...exercise is the biggie! Let's hope the book helps inform me too!

Thanks

Whilst exercise is important, when it comes to weight loss it's 80% diet. To burn 500 calories it would take a lot of high intensity exercise but you could eat 500 calories easily.

I would recommend starting by working out your TDEE, then figure out how many calories you need to eat to lose maybe 1lb per week. Don't be tempted to cut your calories too much as if you're anything like me, you'll get so fed up and hungry that you end up binging, thinking you've ruined your diet and then throw the towel in

I've started watching LouisesJourneyxo on YouTube, she does a lot of content around weight loss and exercise, I find her really inspiring ☺️

TDEE Calculator

This calculator estimates the Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) of a person based on their age, physical characteristics, and activity level.
