Hi! Not sure if this is the correct place to post, will move if needed.
Chatting to friends and they said their diet was bad as they binge eat mostly in the evenings.
What amount of food would be a typical binge?
Is it packets of biscuits, multipacks of crisps etc.

Stuffing myself with whatever I find in the fridge or cupboards that I'd told myself I definitely wasn"t going to eat. A breakdown of my personal boundaries and barriers in this area of my life. At least, that"s how it feels to me.

I think there's a difference between "I stuff myself in the evenings with unhealthy stuff" and actual binge eating, which generally involves a purge afterwards and is on a whole different level.

Yeah binge eating isn't having one too many biscuits in the evening it's the stuffing yourself with so much food and then the great wave of shame that comes after followed by a number three.

A binge for me would be eating anything in house (whether I fancied it or not) and not being able to stop when full. Or buying lots of chocolate/sweets and eating them all in one go, again until full and unable to stop.

I hate it when people who are just generally greedy say they had a binge. No, you ate three Creme Eggs and a packet of crisps. I had a friend at University who binged and it was not pretty and I don't think it's an expression that should be used as lightly as it is.

Proper binging to me is, for example, eating to the point of being sick. And then eating more. Or it's eating a whole cake and then going out to buy another one. It's digging through cupboards or even the bin to find food. It's not about eating, it's about shame and punishing yourself. It's a form of self harm really.

Agreed. Many years ago, I read a description of what a bulimic person ate in a typical bingeing session. It was truly disturbing; nothing near what most people might eat during an occasional bout of over indulgence. There really is no comparison. Most people don't eat until their stomach hurts - and then carry on. People who do are really unwell.
