I want to lose just over 2 stone by June but am just overwhelmed.

Keto worked well for me but I didn't like it. Theres just so many different recommendations
No carb, low carb, low fat, keto,

I just don't know what approach to take.

Logging everything on My Fitness Pal and keeping track of what I was filling my face with.
It has helped me lose (and keep off for 5 years) over 4 stone.

I also have some exante packets but not sure I want to go down the VLCD route

Calorie counting (even to maintain) along with intermittent fasting.
I found that actually I just needed to eat how I meant to go forward and not restricting any food groups was best for me. I went from a 14 to an 8 and maintained. I think the calorie counting just helped me realise the amount of calories in things and make better choices without too much thought. The intermittent fasting (I do anything from 16 to 19 hours) helped with my digestive issues and stop snacking.
I think being flexible has also helped, so the odd day off/counting ghe calories over a week helps too.

16/8 and 10,000 steps a day. Works brilliantly for me. I no longer diet or count calories. I'm 49 and easily managing my weight.

FuzzyLumpkins · 27/01/2024 13:36

I think I'll do calorie counting ad 10k steps. I really need to get out more so that's actually beneficial in other ways too

I kind of follow SW. I say kind of, I follow their ethos of fruit and veg every meal, keep the treats to a bare minimum, exercise and weekly weigh ins - Ive lost two stone since May.

I dont follow the eat as much as you like of certain foods, because they are my triggers and Ill eat them till I would explode - bread and pasta - they are now limited because for me they sugar spike me and Im hungry again soon after eating them. But other then upping the protein and adding veg - lots of veg, meals are the same as Ive always made. Ive upped my movement, 15k steps a day is my norm, I might throw in some skipping or body toning, but thats rare tbh, Im busy and down time Id rather be online. Today so far Ive done a 5 mile nature hike and a two mile cycle. Food eaten, bacon roll with lettuce and tomatoes at 7am before the hike, after the hike, yoghurt, muesli and prunes and a slice of banana bread ( laid on at a hotel ) and that will do me now till this evening when I shall eat fish and vegetable with couscous in a harissa style sauce

For me its about the small sustainable changes that I make now subconsciously , I automatically choose the lower fat, lower sugar, lower calorie dense food. And I love my air fryer - fat free chips which are actually tasty - yummy :)

Sure I go mad and pop in to McD's or the chippy, who doesn't , but thats just one meal, next meal is back on plan - the healthy eating plan for life, not dieting , losing for it to come back again

Logging everything on my fitness pal
Low carb as it's easy to use up my daily calorie allowance on something without sufficient nutritional value
Prioritising protein, fruits and vegetables, reduce ultraprocessed food intake
Using online calculator to calculate tdee and cutting out 100 calories from this daily

Mumaway · 27/01/2024 16:43

Fasting. Food only in the evenings 5-9pm, anything I want, warm water or black coffee otherwise. Allow eating at other times if invited out. 3 stone in 3 months, kept off for 2 years now.

DobieGrayshark · 27/01/2024 16:47

Cutting out cake, biscuits, chocolate and sweets and doing at least 10k steps.

Menora · 28/01/2024 08:07

Calorie counting to make myself be honest about my food intake - now I do it less rigorously as I am better at it. Getting a lot more active and walking
I do avoid eating too many simple carbs but not completely
i also have stopped trying to kid myself that I can go back to eating my old diet ‘in moderation’ one day cos I now know how many calories are in foods and tbh it’s not worth gaining the weight back for a short term dopamine hit.

CortieTat · 28/01/2024 15:11

Eating healthy, by actually following the official food guidelines of my country: more vegetables, eating what’s in season, cooking at home, whole foods, more beans and pulses, fatty fish, organic meat only three times a week. Counting calories on top of that, I register everything in Yazio. I don’t restrict anything although my diet has naturally became very low in gluten, snacks and sweets.
To have some variety in winter where fresh vegetables are not in season I also eat a lot of fermented foods (homemade): kimchi, sauerkraut, beetroot, carrots and cauliflower are my favourites.

I also train six times a week (have been doing that for three years now) but I have only started losing weight once I changed my diet.

Calorie counting and intermittent fasting.

But really it was being in the right headspace iyswim. Not just wanting to lose weight. But accepting what it would involve.

Scottishskifun · 28/01/2024 18:55

Intermittent fasting and calorie deficit have been helping me (I use mfp). I've done slimming world in the past so some elements come in from there too (using low calorie sprays, greater portion of veg then carb and making sure you count drinks for calories!)

Also having a soup maker I can make very low calorie but healthy soup very quickly.

justsaxy · 28/01/2024 18:59

Intermittent fasting, mixed with glucose goddess rules, (savoury breakfast, veg first, followed by proteins, and only sweet things as a dessert), very very little carbs, and I am using the Saxander injections at the moment. I never had the full sensation, but now I do. It's really helped me to cut back on my portion sizes!

Check out the glucose goddess on social media, her approach really really makes sense to me.

NewYear24 · 28/01/2024 21:10

Low carbing for me, I lost 2.5 stone from July until November, it was the easiest diet I’ve ever done.Since then I’ve reintroduced carbs and have lost another few pounds.

I would do it again if the weight creeps on.
