Wegovy/Ozempic etc... Plans to avoid weight gain when we stop?

What are people's plans to avoid the often reported weight gain once stopping these medicines?

I'm planning to throw away all my bigger clothes so I've got no choice but to maintain my lower weight.

What are your plans?

You have to constantly watch what you eat. I have stopped and didn’t gain it back and still losing but it’s not without a lot of hard work. Thing is, it’s like you will get a reset back to how it was when you are hungry all the time but you skipped the stage of learning how to manage it mentally by using wegovy instead and then you have to actually learn how to manage it once you stop, I am not trying to make it sound like I am judging it’s just my experience. Mindfulness and learning about hunger-satiety

throwing your clothes away isn’t going to help you not gain it back… its one way of taking a new step but it’s about a lot more than that, you need to hope you have learned all you need to about good habits and stick with them

The same way you would maintain (hopefully) by losing in any other way. You have to stick to the amount you should be eating.

Yes, it's going to be hard I think. I'm planning on taking 0.25mg for 6 weeks.

I had already started to eat lower carb.but hadn't lost a single pound. For me it's been mostly about eating very small potions, I'd say eating half what I did before.

I have a friend who has kept all the weight off after Slimming World. She eats mainly vegetables and protein, she says her diet is very boring but it works.

Just a word of warning - I was an early adopter of Ozempic and lost a lot of weight. When I stopped it, my appetite returned and was voracious and completely uncontrolled, like nothing I'd ever experienced before.

In keeping with the novonordisk trial data I regained most of the weight, despite being very active (I run regularly and have continued to run half marathons)

You are totally kidding yourself if you think that keeping smaller clothes will stop you regaining weight.

You have to find a way to sort of mimic the effect on your appetite, ie eating lower carb, high protein will leave you less hungry.

Sadly you also have to learn to tolerate a certain level of hunger. I am not talking about skipping meals or eating too little, I mean if you allow yourself to get starving by waiting too long to eat, or snacking and not eating proper meals this is the slippery slope back into weight gain. You have to keep yourself at a manageable level of ever so slightly hungry but not too hungry, and don’t over eat until you are so full you feel bloated

Tbh yes it’s about being boring, I quite like my diet now but my DP finds my diet boring if we eat together as I stick to the same variety of foods - a protein and veg, usually fish, chicken or turkey. I don’t eat out, I carry around small healthy snacks all the time and I no longer sit in front of the TV with junk food like we used to. I actually just stopped watching TV as often as it was a trigger

Ive had my dinner it was not a stingy portion but I am slightly hungry now a couple hours later. I will try to ignore it unless it’s still there in another hour but I will distract myself. I don’t think it’s real hunger tbh

About to reach the target weight I had set and considering what to do with the medication. A few questions:

  1. should I loose a couple more KGs than what I had set in case there’s a rebound effect once I stop taking the medication?
  2. I am on 1mg now, should I phase it out gradually taking 0.5 for a month and then 0.25?
  3. what are your experiences? thank you ☺️

I'm not willing to calorie count forever but I know that I can eat 3 typical meals a day with a snack of around 300 calories and stay the same weight. I need to be vigilant and not exceed that. And if I have a non typical meal then I need to balance it over the rest of the day/couple of days.
The key thing is to be vigilant all the time and use constant reinforcement.
