I've hit my heaviest, I'm feeling my lowest and don't recognise myself.

Likely to be a combo of intermittent fasting and reduced calories.. Will play about to see what works but the main thing is my weight goes down and my life changes.

I would like to run about with the dc without being jiggly jelly or out of breath, I would like to not think about if things can take my weight or if my butt will fit on the slide... it would change a lot of small details about my daily life if I wasn't so self conscious..and add up to a big picture that I'm happier with.

Hope that makes sense, feel free to join me!

I'd like to join please - I need to lose 6 stone really but am aiming for 4 as I think I'm more likely to be able to maintain that sort of weight. I started early Jan after a health assessment that showed that my blood pressure is through the roof and my bad cholesterol is creeping up from year to year (it was bad last year). I'm going back in 3 months' time for a re-assessment and really hope there's a change as otherwise I'll need medication.

I'm sort of low-carbing while also keeping one eye on my calories. I use Nutracheck as I prefer it to MFP but it does cost around £30 for a year.

So so bored of trying to lose weight - it's been 30 years+ since my first diet, surely I should have figured it out by now!

I've just eaten a lunch of chicken, bacon and avocado salad. Very nice but nowhere near as filling as the lovely baguettes on offer in my work canteen!

Ok, that makes much more sense, thank you for clearing it up

I have already had a win today and managed to resist the caramel eggs that were waving at me.. few weeks ago I bought some for the kids but then kept them in the car for me!

If you can afford it, Nutracheck is LOADS better than MFP and is £23 for a whole year. It has the scan function and also brings up pictures. So if you type in Aldi yoghurts, it brings them all up and you can select the one you recognise. Also has a nice graph thing to show progress and can do weight and inches. UK based too so grams and oz rather than cups.

NerrSnerr · 22/01/2024 13:20

Hi all. I'm also trying to sort my shit out and I have three stone to lose. I have started low carbing and hoping to do that to shift the first stone or so and then will go from there. I also desperately need to up my exercise as I have for very lazy.

Similar reasons to you OP, I have small children and want to keep up with them. I did a high ropes course last year and I nearly died. I want to confidently do it this year and it will be so much easier if i'm lighter and stronger!!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 22/01/2024 13:20

I'm starting again today. Got down to 180lb in the summer but up to 192lbs now. I trained for and ran a marathon but once that was done I carried on eating the same and then it was December and then it was Christmas and then it was depressing January etc etc.

I ran 5 miles yesterday and felt like an asthmatic ant carrying some very heavy shopping so time to get those lbs back off. 10 mile race in six weeks so I'd like to drop 7-8lbs by then.

I'm traditional. Calorie counting within a range (1800-2000), 125g protein and 70k steps a week. All tracked on Nutracheck. Slow and steady hopefully.

My problem us that I know EXACTLY what I need to do to lose fat. Its just the actual doing it part that I struggle with. And I like mash..and pasta..and chocolate.

Christmasbargainhunter · 22/01/2024 14:10

Hello, I would like to join too. I also need to lose 5 stone. Probably 6 to be honest but if I aim for 5 and then see where I am.
I have no idea where to start other than eating less. I hope we can support each other and this will help keep accountability.

baubletits · 22/01/2024 18:34

If anyone wants a top tip for going off their dinner, try blended chicken and veg soup with some added cartilage 🤮 bless my mum, she thought she would use the leftover chicken and bones to make a soup.

God knows why she decided to then blend it. Or why she didn't properly siv the carcass when she was making the stock. I really did try to eat it, I didn't want to seem rude when she had looked after the kids and made soup. But alas, it went in the bin 😶

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 22/01/2024 19:15

I'm trying to lose too...2 stone maybe

My work uniform is too tight and I'm not as fast at responding to some workplace incidents as I could be!

Madickenxx · 24/01/2024 11:49

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well! @baubletits that soup sounds interesting to say the least. 😂Lovely of your mum to cook for you but I won't ask for the recipe.

I'm doing fine, still sticking to my lower carb way of eating. Need to find some more inspiration, especially when it comes to simple and easy dinners so will spend some time with google today. No idea whether I've lost any weight this week as I won't have access to scales before Friday but I feel good on it so will keep going.

Not doing very well when it comes to exercise but am thinking exercise will become easier once I've lost a little weight so am giving myself some slack.

Now off to have my first meal of the day. I'm not deliberately fasting but have been swamped with meetings at work and just haven't had time to eat yet.

peachgreen · 24/01/2024 12:08

Morning all! I had a cheeky wee midweek weigh in and was delighted that, after a week of no movement on the scales, I'm down 3lbs already this week. Just goes to show that sometimes it takes a while to show!

Doing well at sticking to the fasting other than finding it too hard to wait until midday for my morning coffee – I'm trying to push it back by 15 minutes a day! I also need to find a way to drink more water, I'm really not succeeding at that. Maybe I need a big vacuum flask to keep on my desk...

Step goal going okay too. Allegedly I burned 600 calories on yesterday's walk – 2.5 hours and 10k steps (not very quick because I stopped on the beach to throw the ball for the dog and hunt for sea glass!). I never trust those calorie burning estimates though so just ignore them and see it as a bonus!

ColinRobinsonsFart · 24/01/2024 20:05

Hello peeps!

I have started drinking kefir - I had some from Asda and it was awful. But I finished it ( big girl badge)
Saw some in M&S and have tried that - so much nicer!

I am fasting 17:7 so nothing until 12md. DH had a voucher for a half price meal at a local gastropub. I looked online and knew what was on the menu for dinner
Chose a halloumi and harissa salad. I couldn't finish it!
For tea I had some home made chicken and veg soup with live plain Greek yogurt and fruit as pudding.

I am taking a lot of codeine at the moment as I am having a flare of my AS - so I am a bit constipated!

Tomorrow I am lecturing at the local uni - I have some overnight oats made and will take soup again .

I like soup!

LostMyList · 24/01/2024 20:15

Arghh I have covid, I'm feeling awful and have lost most of this week to sleeping..

Will catch up when I'm out the other side but just wanted to say I've not aborted the mission, just life sucks..

It was certainly...unique 😂 I made some chunky chicken and vegetable soup for tea today, not a bloody blender in sight thank god 😁

Also to anyone looking for a healthy-ish sweet treat, I have discovered full fat greek yogurt with a spoonful of lemon curd is AMAZING. I do 100g yogurt + 15g lemon curd + 15g protein granola and it's my evening treat, the lemon curd takes the tanginess out the yogurt.

I had some low calorie ice-cream from Aldi yesterday, it was so cloyingly artificially sweet (that type of sweet that turns bitter in the back of your throat), wish I'd just stuck to my greek yogurt.

@baubletits You might be a genius with that lemon curd / Greek yoghurt trick – I’m trying that! Thinking I will add some blueberries…

I can't take credit, I read about it or heard it from someone I just can't remember who/where from. But it's so bloody good 😁 when you try it please report back your findings, I haven't tried it with any fruit yet...

IHateLegDay · 24/01/2024 22:14

I also need to lose 5 stone and have no idea where to start. I keep googling healthy recipes but haven't found a single one I like the look of and I'm not even a fussy eater 🙈
Can I join please?

NerrSnerr · 25/01/2024 07:47

Hope you're all doing ok. In about a week and a half I have lost 3lbs so not too bad but hoping it continues steadily. I'm menopausal and just gone on HRT and heard many horror stories.

I have been doing some exercise this week and sticking to low carb. I have been really making the effort to eat a lot healthier with home made curries/ salads etc.

I really miss the scan barcode feature being free on mfp, but I'm too tight to pay for it!

I bit the bullet and paid the £65 for premium on mfp, it also has a fasting feature, I’ve logged in for 181 days and lost nearly 3 stone.

Welcome. I'm not a typical 'healthy eater' and found the Hairy Dieter books really good, lower calorie but proper food.

Madickenxx · 26/01/2024 12:09

Hey All,

Welcome @IHateLegDay - I think with weight loss it's finding a way that works for you. I'm pretty certain that I would lose weight if I just cut out TV snacks but can't quite bring myself to do it, hence low carb as I can have a few nuts in front of the TV.

@NerrSnerr I'm also menopausal and have been on HRT (mirena coil + patch) and it's been great. My complete brain fog has disappeared and I used to get a lot of dizzy spells and they have gone too. Generally I'm less grouchy according to my family and I am so happy I started it.

@LostMyList Hope you are feeling better now. I've only had Covid once but it really knocked me out!

Lost 2lbs this week so am a happy bunny and that's despite eating out last night. This is the longest (2 weeks) that I've managed to stick to a healthy diet without falling face first into a "share" (HA!) bag of crisps so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Weekends are harder so let's see how I go.

Need to check my blood pressure again to see if it's still super high. I'm really hoping losing weight will reduce it and I'm supposed to take daily readings but at the moment I only remember to do it at the weekend.

It's such a slog, isn't it? I'm not finding it hard as such but still I think for all the effort I'm putting in I should have lost about 3 stone already lol. I have no patience!

baubletits · 26/01/2024 14:39

Well Friday is my weigh in day.

I thought I'd had a good week, however it's also my time of the month so I knew to expect a gain on the scales. 0.1kg up from last week which considering I always expect to gain weight I think is quite good.

I did have a bit of a mini breakdown this morning to DH though. I tried for all of last year to lose weight (tried a few different things) and failed.

Here's my pattern:

Week 1-3 do well, lose approx 5lbs

Week 4- period arrives, gain 5lbs. I don't panic because I think "it'll be water weight, I'll drop it all by next week" so I continue doing what I'm doing

Week 5- lose 1 measly 1lb. Get disheartened, wonder what I did wrong, why that 5lb water weight has not pissed off, get upset and throw in the towel, eat what I want, gain more weight, then start again.

So I'm pleased it was only a tiny gain, but I just feel like 1 week in every 4 I go backwards and then I spend the next 3 weeks getting back to square 1.

On the plus side, I did my measurements have have lost some CMs all over since last week so something must be working.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

NerrSnerr · 26/01/2024 16:07

@Madickenxx I agree- it's a massive slog. I do enjoy the exercise and I do feel better when I eat healthy but it feels all consuming.

@baubletits hope you're able to stick with it. My weight loss is slow at the moment and know I need to just keep at at. Hard work though.

I have really upped my exercise this week. Really trying to get fit again. Have my first spin class in about 8 months on Sunday and it may kill me.

peachgreen · 26/01/2024 16:39

Ahh it's so annoying, isn't it @baubletits? I reckon it takes a good 10 days for period weight to properly drop off, and it tends to go slowly. How often do you weigh in? I find weekly weigh ins massively disheartening because if you catch yourself on a bad fluctuation it can be hugely demoralising. I weigh in every week day which has got me a) a lot better at dealing with fluctuations because I'm used to seeing them and b) helps me understand what foods make a difference (e.g. if I eat bread I will not lose weight, no matter how well I behave the rest of the time!). I know many discourage daily weigh ins but it works for me, and I give myself the weekend "off" so I'm not thinking about it constantly.

I'm 3lbs down this week so 1lb off a stone total for January – hoping I make it by Thursday! I want to have lost another 2 stone by my 40th in July – that will take me to my lowest adult weight and a comfortable size 14. (My BMI will still be categorised as obese though which is thoroughly depressing...)

baubletits · 30/01/2024 19:01

I'm keeping on keeping on. This would have been the point I'd have thrown the towel in, but I can't keep doing that because nothing will ever change if I do.

I'm enjoying being back at the gym, I've increased my weights and have finally found a core exercise videos that I can actually do (although for parts of it I do resemble a giant tortoise knocked on their shell struggling to get get on its feet 😂)

I know it's not great, but I've started having a ready meal with salad or vegetables when I know the family meal is going to be something that is a) a pain in the bum to calorie count, b) highly calorific and c) something I can't action portion control over (shepherds pie, I'm looking at you)

I'm trying to make it as easy as possible to begin with so I don't get fed up and scanning a barcode is definitely easier than having to measure and weigh every ingredient. My kids both love the opposite thing and it's rare we can find a healthy family meal that we all love!
