Has anyone got to goal weight on Ozempic?

And have you managed to keep it off?

I should have got to goal weight in a month. I'm worried about the weight going straight on when I stop.

I have two 'spare'0.5mg pens and was thinking of taking .25 mg dose from them for as long as they last.

But then what? Am I going to be hungry all the time like I was before?

I need to only eat 1300 calories a day to maintain and I found that very difficult before Ozempic! I eat healthily anyway, no processed food etc.

i’m fascinated how all these people losing weight will maintain without it.

Unless they’re now on it for life?

I listened to a weight loss doctor recently and he said it's likely that most people will need to take it for life. But most people with obesity end up taking a few medications for life.

I'm hoping it gets listed for weightloss in Australia because it's costing me shitload privatly.

LovelaceBiggWither · 19/01/2024 04:32

Yes it's ridiculously expensive if you can't get it on the PBS. I think this and mounjaro will come down in price eventually. I wish they would cost the expense to medicare of obesity against ozempic. Seems a bit shortsighted to me to have it for uncontrolled diabetes but not for diabetes prevention.

I'm T2 and plan to be on it or similar for life.

It is short sighted. So frustrating as WeGovy is actually a weightloss medication. Why TGA are holding out I don't know.

One side effect of Ozempic appears to be disinterest in alcohol. Australia could certainly due with reducing its consumption of alcohol.

I very rarely drink on ozempic and it requires no willpower. It's an amazing drug.

Hi I’m an Aussie waiting for my first appointment with My Weightloss Clinic here next Friday. Does anyone know if they will prescribe Ozempic for me and is it hugely expensive to buy each month? I am really disappointed in myself and my current weight and need some help getting started again so I can exercise more and stop constantly thinking about what to eat next! Any Aussie based advice would be great

I put on 7lb but then maintained after that (9 months ago)
I put on the 7lb in the first month by thinking I could just eat less. You can’t, otherwise you wouldn’t have needed use Ozempic in the first place.
Most fat people (I include me, pre-Ozempic in that category ) have issues with sugar and poor insulin control. Many are addicted to sugar in my opinion.
I’ve successfully maintained since then by completely cutting out sugar. If allow myself a bit , I spiral into overconsumption.
Time restricted eating helped too.
If you want any help with book recommendations, pm me.

@Danfromdownunder you might struggle to find it chemist. You can use a compounding chemist Greens or Your Solutions are the two I know that do it. It cost about $240 a month. I am really hoping supply improves and I can go back to the pens as they Are under $200. Then fingers crossed TGA approves for weightloss and it's added to PBS. But my doctor thought WeGovy would be a matter of months away and that's almost a year ago :(

Danfromdownunder · 19/01/2024 07:06

Thank you for your response. I saw a big LED sign at our local pharmacy saying they had stock so hopefully if I find some I can get a few months worth in one go? Will report back after my appointment for anyone else interested.

DrJump · 19/01/2024 09:20

You can't get more than one script at a time. So won't be able to stockpile like that. Which makes it tricky as they can get stock in and then a week later it's gone. For a while no one round here has the big pens so I was having to use the smaller pens and used 1 a fortnight which was very expensive. :(

I am going to do a ring around local places in the next couple of weeks to see what stock is like. As the pens are a bit cheaper than compound.

Good luck with the appointment.

LovelaceBiggWither · 20/01/2024 02:28

You can stockpile if you have a script for the large pen and are not using it at the highest strength. I'm on .5 as maintenance and a large pen lasts me 8 weeks but I still fill every 3 weeks when I can. Apparently on a private script you can get more than one pen if the pharmacist will fill it.

I know in Australia we are told not to use a pen past 6 weeks but the Americans are told 8 weeks. I keep it in the fridge and check it is not cloudy but I am not tossing it if unnecessary!

Sorry for the hijack!

LovelaceBiggWither · 20/01/2024 02:29

Oh and I am not at goal weight but am more concerned about blood glucose which is perfect. I'm careful about what I am eating but have slowly gained a kilo over 3 months.

Zanatdy · 20/01/2024 05:39

That’s the danger I guess. You can’t stay on it indefinitely. But like any diet the most challenging part is keeping it off. 1300 seems very low for maintenance. I’m short but get more than that. Can you increase activity to burn more off? It’s the same as any maintenance I guess and monitor calories. The hunger will get better over time. I’m 3wks into diet and hungers so much better than week 1
