Ozempic/Saxenda

I tried Saxenda a while back which was like a miracle drug for the first few weeks. I never felt hungry, lost a load of weight but then a few weeks in it just stopped working for me, and had no effect at all. I was advised to switch to Ozempic, which again for the first few weeks was everything I'd hoped, but then I started feeling really sick. I was nauseous comstantly and my quality of life was so bad I had to give it up. I would honestly rather stay obese than feel that sick every day. I couldn't work properly or parent, it was horrible.

I'm wondering if there is another option, or if anybody has experienced this and overcome it? It worked so well for me in the beginning! Thanks

I was very sick for the first few months on ozempic. I persevered as I am diabetic. It did pass in the long run and I only occasionally feel nauseated these days.

Mounjaro is coming onto the market, it has just become available here in Australia (and promptly became unavailable because of demand). It is supposed to have a better side effect profile and might be worth considering when you can get it.

Probably a daft question, but did you try the anti-sickness meds? That helped resolve my nausea on ozempic.

Yes I used cyclizine every day and it didn't touch it. I was miserable! I really have zero willpower to diet though so this seemed like it would finally work for me

I did a quick search of Mounjaro and it still says nausea as the top side effect but perhaps it would work better for me. Worth a try!

I am not sure I am helpful or not but you do need to change your diet for the drugs to be effective and even the manufacturers say this. They are not meant to be used to lose weight without changes to your diet. Were you able to make any changes or learn any new ways of eating at all?

I also had to stop the drug for side effects and the honest answer is that I had to change myself to be able to lose weight. I know this is really hard to do without a drug but it isn’t completely impossible. If you want help and support there are plenty of non GLP1 people on the board who can give advice?

I had this on prescription and worked closely with heathcare workers so I appreciate that it wasn't going to be all down to the drug. The reason the drug worked so well for me is the feeling of hunger completley went away for me and I didn't have to fight cravings and use willlpower all of the time, which quite honestly I don't possess! I appreciate for many people simply eating healthy food when cravings hit works, but for many of us, we don't have that willpower and that's why drugs that reduce appetite work so well.

@miffymum90 no neither do I that’s why I was 5 stone overweight but like you I can’t tolerate the drug so I have no other options but to stay obese or try myself

The nausea with ozempic normally happens if you eat lots of fatty or sugary foods. If you stick to lean protein, fruits and veg the nausea should subside after a few days. What were you eating while in it, maybe there's something that triggered the sickness?

LovelaceBiggWither · 21/01/2024 02:34

I've seen a lot of people say that the nausea is caused by fatty or sugary food. It might be for some but it certainly wasn't for me. Mine didn't care what I ate, my stomach was just anti-food.
