Has anyone read the easy way to lose weight for women? I'm finding it very strange. He really pushes fruit for instance but from reading I quit sugar and the fast diet, they tend to warn you off tropical fruit and encourage moderation of everything else. I understand the theory and do think I could cut down a lot on meat and dairy but I find most vegan meals so carb heavy that I'm not sure I'll ever lose weight. Any thoughts?

He uses fruit as a positive snack alternative. By and large, a lot of what he says makes sense, I don't really agree with him on his nutrition side but he's not a nutritionist, dietician or fitness professional. He's a counsellor or psychiatrist, all of his books follow the same principles, the context just changes.

He's not a diet specialist. His advice is great from a food addiction point of view but it's weak in other areas

It's strange I have really been questioning what I eat since I read him. Obviously it's common sense by only eating when you're hungry is a revelation to me. I'm so used to eating all the time irrespective of I'm actually full. I think he's also right that woman are more likely to emotionally eat especially if they're bored.

I haven't read his book, but last year, I cut out all snacking apart from fruit. In the summer, that did mean a lot of apricots, but once they got expensive, pears, satsumas and grapes were my go-to snacks. No weight lost despite giving up cakes, scones, biscuits and puddings.

Now trying 21 Day sugar free plan which forbids all fruit apart from one green apple, unripe banana or grapefruit a day.

Pounds finally starting to shift.

I actually disagreed. I think men and women have the same propensity to snack during boredom, it's just that men seem to have more in the way of hobbies and distractions, by and large, than women dom; computer games, pubs, gadgets, technology, etc are still very much targeted towards men, whilst for women... Well, I go on any main department store whose target customer is women, and all I see emblazoned on the front is clothes, kitchenware and homeware... There's only so many times we will pretend to be on a cat walk at home before the novelty wears off, usually when we're around 5 years old I'd guess... And according to my other half, doing your hair isn't actually fun so maybe not the best boredom killer, I don't know 🤷‍♂️ if anything, women are only more likely to snack because it's one of the most readily accessible boredom killers available to women on the mass consumer market.

Well maybe they're not but I think being at home on mat leave I do eat a lot of snacks from boredom. When I'm working I'm much less likely to eat much beyond lunch and a 4pm snack .

@Urgenthelplease as a midlife woman who is probably a couple of decades ahead of you, I'd highly recommend researching the Human Being Diet. Buy the book and read it cover to cover. It's so insightful about the way your body works. It's based on the Mediterranean diet and eliminates snacking, cuts sugar cravings and gets you into a routine of 3 meals a day. As a non-dieter I can confirm it works. I am 12kg down and it remains stable. It will change your life. There's a very supportive community on Instagram.

He is weird on diet and essentially says two fruit salads a day is all you should eat.

He is great on nicotine addiction and actually his diet book talked me into going decaf for tea and I still drink that. I get where he is coming from that wild animals don’t get overweight even if there is plentiful food and we should eat natural food and then would automatically regulate our weight but he thinks that involves being vegan because we don’t want to pounce on animals we see out and about and eat them rather than focusing on avoiding ultra processed food which is probably the cause of our problems.

Urgenthelplease · 15/01/2024 00:18

Yeah it's clearly irregular as hell in terms of logic. He doesn't just push fruit as a snack alternative you're right, he says just fruit for breakfast which might work with a banana but a handful of cherries and grapes and a slide of watermelon means I'm still hungry an hour later. Same with the when you eat real food you feel full. I know most people who have a veggie salad even with seeds and nuts will agree they're still hungry a few hours later. Obviously I can cut way back on sugar and meat and dairy but I'll check out the human being diet.
