I am getting married in September. I really want to lose a stone and generally feel more trim. But I just.cant.find.the.discipline to stop eating crap or exercise more. What helps you?

I only eat when hungry and can easily say no to food. My GP also told me my cholesterol was high so I've cut out cakes, biscuits and carbs ever since.

I say to myself "this is the heaviest you'll ever be if you start now" and I weigh myself every day, if I don't I forget and eat rubbish.

I'm fasting 16:8 and low carbing during my 8 hours.

I splurge every 2 weeks on a takeaway or meal out so I don't die of boredom.

Not sure this really answers OP's question. Or are you suggesting OP simply learns to eat when hungry and learns to be able to easily say no to food?

Thanks guys. I seem to take the 'everything in moderation' thing quite far. I did a lot of yoyo dieting when i was a teenager - serious deprivation vibes which then eventually backfired. So I have this thing in my head now where I don't want to deprive myself...everything in moderation etc... but then I end up bingeing. I ate an entire fruitcake to myself. So yeah, maybe I do need to do some calorie counting. I just feel like such a slug at the moment, the heaviest I've ever been

I think everything in moderation is a good way of looking at it but I think one of the most important aspects of loosing weight is to be in the right mindset for it.

I have been loosing weight recently after been up and down and what is working for me is eating 3 meals a day and cutting out snacks but allowing myself a little something usually on an evening if I fancy it. Something like a hot chocolate.

I certainly wouldn't go no carbs but I think low carb could be good. To be honest I haven't looked into low carbing rules but what I essentially mean is upping the amount of greens/vegetables so there is less room for pasta/rice but still enjoying those foods.

Trying to lose weight is not easy but we shouldn't feel deprived/guilty for eating certain foods.

Good luck, OP 😊I think you'll be fine!

Dunno. Jus' sharing my take on it.

For me, it was getting on the weighing scales and seeing what weight I was.

pandapanda67 · 11/01/2024 12:12

@MaryActsLikeSheDontCare yeah that normally works but at the moment i just feel so depressed because it keeps going up. But i can't seem to stop myself. @LeftyLou you're right, need to shift my mindset for sure. At this rate I'm going to be the heaviet I've ever been for my wedding which is a bit sad
