Had a tough time
Had ebv / glandular fever may 2022

Have a CFS diagnosis as of last summer..

I love love walking - but slept through cinema movie last night
Part of my cfs - pem - pay back 4 using physical energy / cognitive energy
Etc

I have fatty liver / NAFLD

  • they think linked to 2 stone weight gain

Its hard as like lunch il have low fat canned soup -
Obv that has a fair bit of energy in

I have had iron issues
Id have saltana bran cereal 4 iron
But tbh that has too much sugar
So guna alternate that with porridge..

Ive ordered fat free sugar free syrup

Had a liver scan - fibro scan
@ hosp yest
Nurse said even if i did 20 mins walk a day - i do.
Yest i did 50 min walk
I love walking - always have

I need low fat - low sugar
But need to keep my feretin / iron and b12 okay..

Anyideas

I have an indoor exercise bike that i use at my partners

Have hope, it’s doable! I’ve had CFS around 7 years now.

I was pretty much unable to get off the sofa but managed to lose nearly 4 stone without exercising at all. Weight loss is mostly diet rather than exercise. I too used to be a walker and miss it a lot. If you are walking slowly, rather than getting your heart pumping and being out of breath by walking briskly, then it won’t really have any effect on weight at all.

I stuck to 1,500 calories a day and logged everything I ate on My Fitness Pal to keep me on track. Focus on smaller portion sizes of filling foods. Lots of filling fibre and protein. You ideally need to train your palate away from sweet things or you will still be craving it and will be at risk of grabbing something sweet, fatty and calorific. I’d not replace actual sugar with a sugar free syrup but, if it works for you, great.
I too struggle with iron but I imagine there are better ways to boost it than cereal tbh.
I also have low b12 and low Vitamin D so I have prescription vitamin D and I have b12 injections. If you can’t get these through your GP you can have them at some aesthetics places but otc b12 will keep you topped up better than cereal.

a filling soup like this would probably be better than a tin of low fat soup. This is a very thick filling soup and the lentils give it protein.

iron bisglycinate has better bioavailability than prescribed ferrous fumerate and doesn’t have the nasty gastric side effects. This boosted my iron better than the prescribed iron I was taking.

I too have cfs (among other things) and can't exercise and very rarely leave the house/sofa/bed. I lost weight by logging everything on my fitness pal and intermittent fasting. So diet alone can help you loose weight. The cfs clinic told me to eat 5 small meals a day but then I read lots of contradictory advice about the energy this uses up digesting the food. I also had a lot of gastric symptoms (so i started to experiment to see what was best for me) which intermittent fasting has helped. I found I don't get hungry now (it was like eating breakfast flipped a switch in my head and I was then hungry all day). I've gone from a 16/14 to an 8/10 and am maintaining (never weighed myself). I do take supplements as advised by cfs clinic and gp of vitamin d, probiotic and multivitamins and minerals. I feel tracking my calories makes me more mindful of what I'm eating (so a cake with 400 calories doesn't seem quite as appealing when I can have a meal that will keep me fuller for longer with the same calories).
I think it's experimenting with what works for you being mindful of underlying health conditions.

Thanks for sharing your story and knowledge :)
Glad youve managed to lose the weight you wanted - well done :)

I am ( / was ) a foodie
And can also be quite an emotional eater too..

Off work atm too - which doesnt help in that regard.
But hoping to go back next month
