Those that have bought it where have you got it from?

I’ve been approved for 0.25mg by my consultant but my GP stalling the process and wanting more information but my consultants waiting list is 6 months for another appointment (nhs) I’m sooo frustrated and thought I would have it by now. Bmi constantly increasing. Pcos has got so so bad..

I’ve always bought from My Juniper. They’re not the cheapest but have been reliable in terms of supply and their service is excellent

BlueMumma2018 · 06/01/2024 11:37

Thank you. How much do you buy at a time?

They send one pen at a time and send them every 4 weeks. I like the fact I don’t have to remember to reorder. If I’ve ever needed them to change the dispatch date they’ve actioned it the same day

I tried Ozempic with MyJuniper, but they had significant supply issues and held many of us for months on the 0.5mg dose, during which time we were paying @ £225pcm and not losing. They may have resolved this issue now - and I did love the online community and app support. However, I moved to DrFranks.co.uk (run by Prof Franklin Joseph of Liverpool univeristy/spire hospital) and transitioned to Wegovy as they had this in stock when Juniper were struggling.

You are issued a pen every 4weeks, working your way from 0.25mg to 2.4mg. The cost rises with the dosage (from about £225 to £310 on the higher dose). I’ve lost 3stone over 6m without really thinking about it - it takes the focus off food and makes it easier to reduce portions/eat heathily. Am hoping to get another 3 stone off by the summer. As a PCOS/hypothyroid/menopausal woman I’d tried everything, and barely lost when even fasting, so am over the moon with this. Even managed to maintain over Christmas! Whoever you go with, can recommend it (the cost seems steep, but I save that in wine/food every month).

@BusyMummyWrites01 I ended up ordering from Pharmacy2U. I looked at my juniper and whilst it sounds great I think they charge a lot for the support etc which I doubt I will use.

thanks for telling me your experience that is amazing! I finally feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel for losing weight. As I have got older I cannot shift weight at all. It’s made me miserable. I have pcos and just recently found out I have really high cholesterol now. My gynaecologist consultant (private) wrote a letter to my gp as well as my nhs fertility consultant and my gp still refused to give it to me but happy to put me on statins for the rest of my life! I have no idea why the nhs continues to fail women with pcos..

glad to hear your story ☺️

I started 0.5 Ozempic on the 15th of January. After four days I lost 10lbs and since then my weight loss has stopped. The doctor said a plateau is normal. I have pcos and type two diabetes. I've been eating a lot less and sometimes even one meal a day. Has anyone on ozempic experienced this ?

Menora · 30/01/2024 14:42

@user6190 it is 15 days since you started taking it, it will take time this is not a miracle drug. I think your expectations of it are unrealistic, it can take months and even over a year to lose the weight some people need to - will take me a year to lose 4.5 stone (3.5 stone lost since April 2023)

Please eat properly, there is no point damaging yourself and losing important muscle mass to starve yourself on one meal a day only 2 weeks into a diet, eat three balanced meals a day.

BusyMummyWrites01 · 30/01/2024 16:58

@user6190 So, as in any diet, the initial weight loss is glycogen stores and fluid (um, and waste products as less food in = less waste out), ie only a few pounds of it is body fat. It’s normal when reducing carbs/calories to lose a significant amount in the first few days/week but it is unrealistic to expect that to continue. Your weight loss should continue at 1-2lbs of fat per week.

This is no different on ozempic/wegovy: the medication itself doesn’t make you lose weight - it’s the lifestyle changes that come about as a result of taking it - eg, you don’t feel hungry so you don’t think about food or snack; you find it hard(er) to eat more than 800 cals/day; the way it slows down the emptying of the gut means it is impossible to eat a full meal or binge.

The effect of the medication is strongest in the first 1-2 weeks after an increase, as the body gets used to it, which is why you need to increase from 0.25, to 0.5 and onward to 1.0 and so on.

So don’t panic. However, you CAN still plateau on this medication. I’ve just had a 6-8 week plateau on 2.4mg. There was Christmas etc and I thought I had really been good - been deprived even ☹️ However, after a very hard look at my diet, I realised that although I was not eating big meals, my calorie intake HAD slowly crept up. A ready meal/bought sandwich etc, a couple of biscuits and 4-6 teas/coffees a day easily make 800-1000 calories, horrifyingly enough, and yet I felt that ‘I had hardly eaten anything’ so the glass or two of wine a couple of nights a week, the odd slice of toast or the chips I’d made too many of for the family meal ‘didn’t count’.

In fact, the meds and the plateau (a real one, not one after two weeks of starting) have been really useful as I’ve realised that the snacking, the unconscious eating (sometimes just to be polite with visitors) seriously sabotages weight loss as it is easy to end up eating 1400+ cals/day and yet not eat a ‘proper meal’ with the family all week. I realised I was completely deluding myself as to how much I was [not] eating. I have now cut all snacks/little tastes/picking off the oven tray and count everything I eat/drink again and lost 3.5lbs in the last 10 days. Have started walking more too.

I also have PCOS and am hypothyroid and have been blaming these things for years, only now I accept that I really do have to make permanent lifestyle/attitude changes - snacking of any kind between meals, especially on days when I’ve not reached my 10000 foot steps goal, is an absolute no-no.

Hang in there, the meds work - but maybe not in the way - or at the speed - you were hoping. I am more than 3st lighter after 8m and confident the last 3st will be gone by my holiday in July now I’ve brought myself back in line. I’ve never stuck to a ‘diet’ for this long or so easily. You will get there too.
