When are you drawing a line on Christmas and starting your new year diet? I think I'll go for New Year's Day - it's a Monday which is quite good to start fresh

Not doing dry January but will
Probably only drink 4-5 times during the month.

What is your loose plan?

I'll be broadly following slimming world with lunch and dinner. Most days coffee instead of breakfast.

Will you include any movement?

I want to be 8k steps minimum with three workouts per week.

New Years Day for me too, likewise a fresh start on a Monday feels like a good plan. Will be back to porridge or smoothies for breakfast, salad or soup for lunch plus dinner, calories counted using MyFitnessPal. Four martial arts classes per week plus at least one 5k jog and at least two out of five days cycling to and from work.

Wow! So I'm guessing you're already quite slim then! Can I have some of your self-discipline and motivation please??

@Gotosleepnow2023 not really, I'm about a size 16 now but that's after 6 stone lost over the last 16 or so months (largely thanks to less cake, no comfort-toast-and-marmite, and what I posted above). It's more stubbornness than motivation as such 😆

Well done, that's a real achievement!

I'm off alcohol for a hundred days, I'm three weeks in and I feel better for it already. I'm hoping that will shift a few pounds. Slowly hoping I get the motivation to do some exercise, any motivational tips??

As obvious as it might sound, just dive in and don't wait to be fit enough to start doing something you think you'll enjoy! A lot of people try to push themselves to jog or go to the gym to try and lose enough weight to feel comfortable doing what they actually want to do - whether that's putting on pilates gear or wearing a swimsuit or trying jiu jitsu. It's so much easier to be motivated about doing something you enjoy! And as your fitness levels improve you start to find some of the other exercises easier and therefore more enjoyable. I used to hate running with the kind of venom most people reserve for bent politicians. It'll never be my favourite pastime but it's a means to an end now, no worse than pushing myself to do the gardening or housework.

Also helped me to find something where I was in a class with others (once I realised no-one was judging me because they were all too busy concentrating on their own performance/mistakes 😁 ) - it gave a bit of routine, accountability, made me some new friends, and working towards targets gives you some success measures that aren't all about pounds or inches.
