Calories questions

I'm referring to Apple Watch calories here and MyFitnessPal tracking.

I've used a TDEE calculator too. This said my maintenance calories are 1,994.

I know that the Apple Watch is not necessarily accurate so I'm using it as a rough idea and at least it's consistent.

On average over a year I burn 2,100 calories at resting rate. Ie because I'm sedentary.

In addition I burn (average over the year) 570 calories a day as active energy (I.e my heart rate was high enough for it to be considered active calorie burn)

I weigh my food (even butter!) and I'm keeping to less than 1,600 calories a day. I've cut back so much. I rarely snack and I don't drink alcohol.

The weighing of food and tracking of calories has been for 6 days, so I know some considerable way to go.

Is this calorie count sufficient to lose weight?
When might I start seeing results?

Since counting calories and aiming for a calorie deficiency I've noticed my meals aren't that different and all I've really done is stop snacking (😭).

I'm happy to be in this for the long haul - it would be good to know when I might start to see some results to keep me motivated.

I'm recovering from injury so once my body is used to lower calories I'm going to gently increase my activity.

This week was a seven work out week.

If your tdee calculator says 1994 then 1600 calories (around 20% lower than maintenance) will be enough to lose weight as long as you are accurately weighing and logging, and aren’t logging exercise on MFP.

My meals did decrease in portion size though so double check things are logging correctly. I happily ate something over and over thinking there were only X amount of calories in it but someone had entered it into the data base incorrectly, it actually had 3 times the amount of calories in it!

I will say don’t log any exercise into MFP, it’s the only time I never lost weight (& I’ve seen others complain about this on other forums) it gives you your exercise calories back to eat so, instead of eating 1600 calories, you could actually end up eating 400 extra or whatever more! You know you are exercising for fitness and health, so just log calories for your weight loss goal.

It helped me lose nearly 4 stone and has helped me keep it off so I’m a huge fan of MFP.

My watch automatically links to MFP but I ignore them. I pretend they aren't there!

I'm very careful with logging. I weigh food onto my plate and then check I've got the right unit/weight too in MFP.

Hope this works.

I also never eat my exercise cals back but I had to really watch the macros to get over a long plateau, same calories in but swapped out some of the carbs for protein really got me going again

You must drink plenty of water. You will see a difference within a month I think, you might lose a lot the first 2 weeks but then it can slow down so log in your weights and then look at it in a graph over a period of time.

the biggest thing I did was measure my body parts as that’s been the biggest change. Weight loss has been hard in a scale but on a tape measure it’s given me a lot of hope to keep going! Since April I have lost 3st (10kg more to go..) but I have lost nearly 8 inches from my waist, 5 inches off my thighs!
