Calorie counting help

So I need to lose a bit of weight and have of course chose the run up to Christmas as the best time to do this Hmm, probably not wise I know.

Tracking at home I can do easily, however how am I best to track meals out? I know chain restaurants provide calorie details on their menu but what about the places that don't provide this information?

Do you just guesstimate?

I imagine I'll keep calories lower the rest of the day to be safe and I know having a day or two going over won't ruin any progress but I don't want it to be an excuse to get the most calorific thing on the menu.

If they don’t provide it then all I can do is best guess. I tend to stick to things I can make a fair assumption on, like fish/rice/veg which is boring but practical. I pick a small plate option too

I would look at fitness pal and type on what ur having. Either someone there would have the calories or u can grab the closest one to it and use those amounts. Better than nothing

If you really can't avoid eating out, stick to soup (no bread), grilled fish with veg and no potatoes, and salads. No pudding, pasta, rice, curries, pizza, fried chicken, Chinese or Indian food. Safest with a French or Japanese menu.

P.S. although you do need to keep an eye on calories, another thing you can do is take more exercise than you might usually. Walking at a brisk pace for an hour (or 2) can 'buy' you extra calories (you can input exercise on MyFitnessPal), - I call it Walking for Wine. In any case, you should do at least 20 minutes walking (or gardening or hoovering) a day.
