Plateau after 7 days

Dinkiedoo · 25/10/2023 13:09

Been on Second Nature app as recommended by my GP.

I have high cholesterol and am pre diabetic.
Ive given up alcohol and I follow the eating plan to the letter.
I lost 7llbs in the first week but in last 11 weeks have lost nothing !
The health coach just tells me its a plateau with no suggestions or help. I have made the admins aware of this with no joy !
Is this plateau aa ' normal ' as they making out ?

11 weeks is far too long to just be a plateau.
You need to adjust calories down a bit by the sounds of it.

Dinkiedoo · 25/10/2023 17:43

Coach says they can last 12 weeks or more !
Will cut carbs and see if that helps

What's your weight and calories? And activity level? Does seem like a long plateau, it might be worth tweaking things

Jellybean23 · 25/10/2023 18:00

Are you weighing your portions? Guessing doesn't work. Are you actually eating enough?

Dinkiedoo · 25/10/2023 21:04

Im 94 kgs . The app goes by measurements / weights of food which I follow religiously. Have cut down on fruit...because if the sugars. Barely touch carbs

What is the eating plan?

Dinkiedoo · 26/10/2023 09:45

Give me an example of what you're eating in a day because I've looked on their website and see you have said you're 95kg. Eating that little it should be dropping off you.

Dinkiedoo · 26/10/2023 16:02

Porridge for breakfast with cup of tea skimmed milk.
Mid morning handful of walnuts
Lunch 2 eggs cant eat three as advised...on one slice of glutnen free bread with small ammount of butter.
Tea last night was chicken pasta and veg .Greek yoghurt and 3 strawberries.
Nothing after that .
May have a second cuppa mis morning but mostly drink water.

And you're weighing stuff out? so 40g of porridge, weighing the pasta and walnuts accounting for oil in cooking?

Dinkiedoo · 26/10/2023 21:51

Yes

I just came across your thread and wanted to really really encourage you to read Fast feast repeat by gin stephens and The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. All this weighing, calorie restricted low far nonsense has no research to back it up. You will plateau if your calories are too low bevause your metabolism will slow to accomodate. These two books have taught me so so much and I have lost fat (not a lot of weight on scales) but dropped two dress sizes, have appetite correction so I dont get hungry all the time. Good luck

@Dinkiedoo I've posted on your other, more recent thread as well.

Looks to me like you're eating too many carbs, and not enough fat. And given that Second Nature promise fast weight loss, it's clearly not the approach for you.

You say you barely touch carbs, but you are!

Porridge, walnuts, gluten-free bread, pasta and strawberries (and veg) are all carbs and, together, mean you're probably eating more carbs than you need. The veg should stay as part of your diet, along with a few strawberries every now and then, but the rest you should probably ditch.

Are you being asked to eat low fat as well?

None of this is working for you!

You need to be low carb, medium protein and high fat.

Dinkiedoo · 08/01/2024 16:08

Hi. Not eating low fat as per the advice Ive been given

I also followed you over 🤭
low fat for cholesterol is sensible as per advice from a HCP I imagine?

but you do eat too many carbs - every meal you have is simple carb based. You don’t seem to eat much veg? You could choose one of those carbs to have a day in a meal and they should be Wholegrain as a basic rule. At least get rid of one carb based meal. Your meal should be protein first, then veg, then lastly if you want carbs, it’s the smallest most insignificant portion not the base

Menora · 08/01/2024 18:22

As an example this is a quick meal I make as my main bulky evening meal

lean mince (protein), homemade tomato sauce, broccoli and then a really small portion (tablespoon) of orzo pasta (it’s Wholegrain) because I have exercised, so I wanted some carbs today but it’s the smallest part of the plate - or I won’t include it at all and skip it out. When I counted and weighed it all with ingredients it was about 500 calories ish.

You don’t have to eat or make this, but it is an example. I have lost 3st eating these kind of main meals. For lunch I had chunky veg soup and and breakfast/snack I had fruit/yoghurt/veggies or will have eggs. I will eat about 1500-1600 calories a day in a deficit and mostly stay full up. The veg and meat will fill you up for longer
