Has anyone been prescribed wegovy via the NHS

Hi, pretty much as per title. I've finally decided to see a doctor for help with weight loss (I have 9 stone to lose to get to a healthy BMI it turns out). I've tried and tried at home but now that places like WW are all digital and meetings in person are like gold dust to find for full time workers, I'm really struggling. I know I need to do the work alongside it, but I think it could really help.
Just wondering what my chances are of being prescribed it via my doctor? My BMI will be over 40 due to this weight gain (since covid at the end of 2020, I've put on five stone)

I don't know if the guidelines will be similar to Ozempic/Saxenda etc, but to get that prescribed you had to have a BMI over 40 and have a diagnosed weight related condition. You also had to have been referred to the weight management service and be going through that for a while before they would give it. So it may be the same and quite hard to get hold of on the NHS, which I do think is quite silly because surely they are better off funding it for people to lose weight before the more serious conditions develop

i get mine through boots direct and i was chatting to the chemist that i was thinking of asking for a referral from the GP as it is very expensive and she advised me that the GP's are actually telling people to buy it if they can as its a lot easier, there are massive hoops to jump through to get it even on the NHS apparently... fingers crossed you are lucky

Thanks ladies - it doesn't sound like that they will prescribe it. I have had a lot of success with WW in the past (although put it all back on) but without groups to attend I've really struggled to stay on track. I think I need someone to weight me in and keep me accountable and I thought the extra boost of the medicine might help keep spirits up.

I guess I can just have the conversation with my doctor and see what they say, but it sounds like they might refer me on to the 12 week weight loss programme first (which actually I'd be keen on if I still went to weigh in every week)

It's definitely worth asking, there's no harm in trying. The worst case is they say no, and like you said they may still be able to offer different support

i agree.. even if you dont get the injection, i get reduction gym membership which is a massive help! and if you don't ask, you don't get in this day and age
