Gosh it sounds enormous, it is enormous, and I’m so saddened that I’ve been that unhappy in my life/myself to allow this to happen, but a pound at a time it CAN be done.

At present I’m doing 23hr fasts and fast800, trying to kickstart my self control. Definitely working and have already dropped a few pounds. I know from previous successful weight loss that it’s important to me to have somewhere to write. To hold myself accountable.

Will end up being a 25hr fast at least today as busy, pleased I can.
Food will be: egg salad, fish stew & salad

I have a similar amount to lose. I've never heard of the fast 23. Does it mean you only eat once a day. Does it what time of day you eat. I really need to lose weight but mainly need to keep it off once I do. It sounds like you are doing well so far.

MrsHedgewitch · 19/10/2023 16:42

@bekindtome so my GP told me the science of intermittent fasting is all accurate, I really want to do anything I can to avoid too much excess skin and fasts of 16+ hours help bodies go in to autophagy. So I’m just doing the 800 calories of fast800 but in a small window, 1 hour. Means I don’t even have to think about food for great majority of the day…I’m an overeater so if I’m not careful every time I eat is a chance I’ll binge. Once I’ve reset my mind to weight loss mode rather than breakfast-on-chocolate-biscuits mode I’ll maybe bring it down to 20 hr fasts.

(I eat at 10am, seems to work best for me at minute).

Respectfully I would urge you to not chose this method of weight loss. 800 calories is less than a 2 year olds recommended daily intake. I’m losing weight just now, I’m having around 2000 calories a day and walking 5 miles a day. So far I’ve lost 17lbs and it’s I’m on week 8. You need to think long term and chose a path that’s sustainable

VernonScrips · 19/10/2023 16:55

If I ate 2,000 calories a day even with walking 5 miles a day I would be the size of a house.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/10/2023 16:58

I'd pile on the weight at 2000 calories.

MrsHedgewitch · 19/10/2023 19:37

Thank you but I have chosen an amount that is sustainable, a two year old doesn’t have a huge body of fat to also use as energy as well as calorie-intake. I do. Why not support someone trying rather than immediately put them down? Dr Moseley is a registered doctor in this country, his recommendations of 800 calories for people with my bmi are research driven.

You're mixing Fast 800 with intermittent fasting in a drastic and inadvisable way. What you're doing isn't what's advocated in either of those methods, it's just starving yourself.

And autophagy refers to a process within the body, it's got nothing to do with loose skin. In fact, losing too quickly through starving yourself will put you at greater risk of loose skin, not less.

I've followed both OMAD (one meal a day) and 20/4 fasting (slightly longer eating window) and you don't just eat 800 calories in your eating window.

(Edit - just seen your reply) Dr Moseley's method doesn't mean 800 calories every day, you know that.

Handbagandgladrags · 19/10/2023 19:44

Dr Moseley’s most recent VeryFast800 does mean 800 calories a day for either 12 weeks or however long someone with considerable weight to lose needs to get down to a safer level. I really hope the original poster doesn’t feel attacked rather than supported.

waistchallenge · 19/10/2023 19:46

Oh right, I've just googled it and seen they do advocate for 800 calories per day. Well, I think that's insanity. If you want to reset you can eat more than that with intermittent fasting and I can almost promise it will work and "reset" in the way you mean.

waistchallenge · 19/10/2023 19:48

She's a grown woman isn't she, I'm sure she can handle this "attack".

Prisonbreak · 19/10/2023 22:32

@MrsHedgewitch
where did I put you down? I was offering a more sustainable solution therefor giving you a better chance of success?? But sure…. Take offence, it seems everyone does these days

Attictroll · 19/10/2023 22:39

A kick start is ok but you need a longer term sustainable habit. I would urge you to download the free MyFitnessPal app and keep to it...whether your current regime or more realistically do it at 1000-1500 a day but make yourself do it. Make it a habit allow for cheat days...eg Christmas Day etc so you aren't giving up anything for life. I lost lots and allowed myself to put a square of dark chocolate as part of my count in everyday which helped keep me sane. I know calorie counting is boring but in to out works. It helps me be aware of everything and I've now kept slim for 4 years ! Not the usual yo yo dieting
