What happens after Ozempic/Wegovy

I’d sure this has been asked before but I can’t see a thread on it after a quick look.

I’m totally fed up of yo yo weight loss and gain, and feel all consumed and miserable about my ever increasing (now obese) body.

I am very tempted to try weight loss injections but I’m worried about what happens when you reach goal weight and come off the injections. Does your appetite immediately come back? Do the jabs fundamentally change your biology so that your hunger cravings end up worse than before? Don’t want to start something that works brilliantly in the short term but could potentially cause more damage in the long-term.

Can anyone share their experience of life after weight loss injections? Thanks!

Thanks and yes, I’m sure habits need to change otherwise the weight will come back the same as before.

I guess what I’m getting at is whether the jabs change your body chemistry in some way, so that your hunger hormone rebounds even more strongly after you finish, making it even harder to eat healthily and resist cravings.

I read something that suggested people’s weight rebounded quicker after wegovy than with other weight loss methods, and it made me wonder why.

I've been off Ozempic for a bout 6weeks, the hunger has come back and a sometimes with real full force!

But its about self control. Some days i lose it and eat rubbish, other days im sensible and eat well.

With Ozempic, cutting down on excessive alcohol and being more active (just a few steps a day) i've lost 25kg over a year.

Ive just ordered Wegovy and will use a 1.7mg over 6 weeks as i'd still like to lose another 5-8kg.

Hoppababy · 19/10/2023 12:12

Thanks, that is really useful to know! Do you think the hunger cravings are worse than before or just the same???

Ive taken the plunge and ordered some Wegovy. Feel so fed up with my complete inability to lose weight, so hoping it works and I can manage to find the will power to actually commit to changing my habits for the long term. Sounds so easy but I obviously haven’t managed it yet!

They feel worse, but only because i havent had them in 3-4months!

It was a wonder for me. But just remember you have to change yr eating patterns and thoughts about food for it work in the long term.

Edinlassy · 21/10/2023 14:27

Hi, can you recommend the best place to source these injections?

EweCee · 21/10/2023 19:18

For those who used Wegovy, did you find that each pen had more than the 4 doses?

Fromthebirdsnest · 21/10/2023 19:24

I gained half a stone recently wanted to lose it so I fibbed a bit on a online pharmacy got orlistat .. had a handful of my husband's chippy chips (like 6 ) & had orange oil come out me like lava 🙃 it's not the point of this thread but I wanted to warn you all don't eat fat if your considering orlistat as an alternative to ozempic.. 😂

I don't have science to back this up but I would imagine the reason would be, if you have something that so effectively suppresses your appetite, you don't really have to think and learn how to change your whole diet and food environment, and of course if you have been artificially lowering your appetite, you may struggle with all of the many mechanisms that come into play related to hunger/appetite.

I went to the GP in summer to do a tier 3 weight management referral as my BMI is over 35, and I am now going to cancel it as I genuinely don't think it's the right path for me (though I am so happy and excited for everyone who has struggled for a long time and found this to be the help they needed to get healthy!!)

Xenical is much better I lost 10 stone in 9 months a few years back. Went on saxenda lost 4 stone quickly put it all back on even without eating hardly anything also fucked up my thyroid. Having a sleeve in london next month

personally for me it was a waste of money made me incredibly Ill aswell there was times all I had was coffee for three weeks at a time

Menora · 29/10/2023 17:29

I have a support thread on this on this forum. I won’t lie it is harder but it’s not impossible

The sample they did of weight regain was interesting as I wonder if those who claimed they were eating the same foods were truthful? Without nausea to stop you eating it’s far easier to lie to yourself.

The entire thing is emotional and mental energy. There is no chemical in the world that can change this part of your brain forever unless you literally got your brain reprogrammed or like with WL surgery, something physically changed. You have to be strong and stay strong and keep going and going, proving to yourself that you can do it

SuffolkUnicorn · 29/10/2023 21:23

I ate what I wrote being on the spectrum I get obsessive so I ate the same thing everyday

SuffolkUnicorn · 29/10/2023 21:23

I lost 10 stone on xenical that worked much better than saxenda for me

Menora · 31/10/2023 09:48

Still in my annoying plateau zone 😑
I am going away this weekend and determined not to over eat and continue this annoying stage!

@beeswaxinc don't cancel your tier 3 referral, if it's anything like my area they have a full course of groups and sessions with dietician and psychology you would have to go through before even being prescribed the medication anyway, and these have been so helpful in getting started on my weight loss again, they make people do the groups before medication so they start to think about their relationship with food and emotional eating and how to eat more regularly so that they hopefully won't regain the weight after stopping. Even if you decide you don't want meds in the end the groups are so worth it, not like ww or sw at all.

Berlioze · 08/11/2023 21:53

Hi, how do you go about getting Ozempic or Wegowy please? I don't look as fat as I actually am, but I'm clinically obese with BMI 35. I've recently started reading about both, but I don't know how to get them? Do GPs prescribe them on the NHS, is it that simple?

Waitdifferent · 08/11/2023 22:17

@Berlioze where I'm from you have to get your GP to refer you to tier 3 weight management services in the hospital, I think they are the only service that can prescribe the injections at the moment, I don't think they do ozempic unless your diabetic, and you have to do the course with the dietitian first of all too, they have massive waiting lists as you can imagine, with all the demand for the drugs.

SuffolkUnicorn · 09/11/2023 03:25

No I bought it from a chemist online it used to be about 55 pound a pen last time I bought it was July and it was 90.00 then had a gastric sleeve on Monday 6-11-23 home next day I went private. The injections only last until you stop taking them and when the hunger pangs come back they are worse than before
