what size do I look in this photo? I am tough, you can be honest / constructive. I would be grateful for any kick up the bum tbh.

I’m pretty shocked to be honest at these trews I’ve just bought that fit me perfect. Well ok they’re a little baggy on the bum.

But their waist measurement is the standard for this size label.

I can’t believe I’m now this size it’s the biggest I’ve ever been. Considering the hard manual work I used to do just a couple of months ago before I had to leave due to ill health - those muscles and tautness just flabbed right up after a few months.

For context I’ve had two children in my early 40s and in this picture I’m in my 50s. I don’t drink or smoke and walk regularly several times a week. As posties complain, walking doesn’t lose any weight just keeps your heart health up.

Where are they from? There’s a style of Fat Face jeans that fall off me at my regular size so I size down but not in any clothes.

sadie42 · 05/10/2023 17:48

You look healthy, fit and long legged. Don't worry about what size you are!

RuthW · 05/10/2023 17:48

12-14

Neurons · 05/10/2023 17:48

ok thanks everyone here are the actual sizes :

18 trousers (non-padded expensive hill walking trousers)
Man’s uniform issue top size Large

I’m a 14 top sometimes 12 at a push
16 dress
16 trews but now it seems like 18 🫣

sometimes it helps to get other people’s perspective

and yes I definitely noticed a sea change after my early 50s everything just suddenly lost elasticity out of nowhere

OP posts:
piscis · 05/10/2023 17:49

I'd say 12

piscis · 05/10/2023 17:50

You don't look like an 18 to me at all

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 05/10/2023 17:50

Similar height and weight to me and I'm a 16. Probably because all my meno weight has gone on my stomach.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 05/10/2023 17:51

Ah, just saw your answer. yep some 16s don't fit me, I bought an 18 denim skirt the other day which was depressing.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 05/10/2023 17:52

You look a size 14, no bigger in that pic.

I'm 5.10, weigh 14 stone and consistency a size 16, so I'd be surprised if you're a true 16 at that weight.

You've still got a waist too!

Neurons · 05/10/2023 17:59

Thanks everyone I’m going to go and find some diet threads on this board now.
really appreciate you taking time to input ! I’m concerned about the health aspect of my weight gain than anything else so this has prompted me to kickstart something.

Wow. I'm a size 18. I'm apple shaped, all the weight is around my middle. I'm the same height as you but I'm nearer to 15 stone so 2 stone heavier. I thought you'd be a size 14.

JustAMinutePleass · 05/10/2023 18:30

I thought they might be. I’m an 18 too but don’t look it as my fat is on my hips and thighs.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/10/2023 19:16

14

Oldgreyjumper · 05/10/2023 20:28

You don’t look like an 18.

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/10/2023 20:29

12

FuckingHellAdele · 05/10/2023 20:39

I wouldn't have said an 18. My guess would have been looks like a 14, could be a 16 because you're tall

waistchallenge · 06/10/2023 07:57

Well, as a tall person you have a lot of leeway to wear a larger size and still look slim. Having said that, I would in no way imagine you were wearing a size 18 from that pic. I would have guessed around a 14 considering your height (12 if you'd been shorter). I think these trousers are an outlier and I wouldn't pay any attention to their size in all honesty, especially if you're happy with your weight.

Graciebobcat · 06/10/2023 14:11

12-14 I would say.

Graciebobcat · 06/10/2023 14:17

FWIW I'm 5'7" and 12st 8lbs. My measurements are 39" 31" 39" - should be a 14 all round but nearly always a 12 in tops, 14 in trousers. We all carry weight so differently! I didn't think you looked particularly bigger than me in the photo.

I have lost some weight recently but would like to get down to 11 stone. At least my height to waist ratio is now back in the "healthy" zone. BMI down to 27 from 29.

Your BMI is only 26, OP so you don't need to go too mad with weight loss.

I would have said 16/18

I am a similar build to you, but about 6ft tall and 11 stone and wear a 14 or 16 in those kind of trousers

Most British brands are not cut for our kind of shapes
