Gastric bypass - what to pack for hospital

Obviously pyjamas, book, toiletries and ear plugs - anything else I should be thinking of packing to make the hospital stay (2 nights) more bearable?

Long chargers. Slippers. Nice wash things. I mainly just slept after my VSG but was only in 1 night and home the following morning.
If you've got long enough hair French plaits keep it out of the way and stop it getting matted. Good luck.

Lip balm & hand cream
Glucose sweets - your throat might be quite sore after a GA.
Insulated water bottle
Download podcasts / music / series before you arrive at the hospital - connection is often rubbish on the ward.

Thanks both. Something else I've been wondering - not quite sure about the incisions - will I be able to wear an underwired bra after or do I need to find an alternative?

Headphones!

Soft squishy non wired bra definitely. Soft wide waistbands.

Personally don't take glucose sweets!
I had a bypass, they most probably will make you have dumping syndrome and that is the last thing you need!!
Take a low fat cuppa soup packet incase your desperate for something to eat but in my experience you won't be!

I was only in one night, I took a nightie, slippers, long phone charger, toiletries and a book. Also have headphones and podcasts/films/series downloaded etc as you will most likely just want to lay down and listen/watch something. Also big high waisted knickers with loose elastic that won't press on the surgery wound sites, and baggy comfy clothes for the journey home. Also it helps to gently press a pillow into your tummy for comfort just on the drive home.

Get up and walking around as soon as you possibly can- it massively helps pain and healing.
Mint tea can help with any trapped gas pain but again get walking and it helps!

Good luck! Its life changing but it's not magic so work hard at it (especially after the first 2 years!)

O and you can wear a bra but you definitely won't want to! My highest scar is below my bra line at the front so I could of but I did not want to at all!

Thanks so much, great suggestions. Will definitely pack my granny knickers!

Eye mask to keep out lights

Yep big loose knickers. Lip balm. Big baggy nightshirt as you may be in the inflatable moon boot things to help prevent blood clots so may need help getting out of bed and want to be covered up.

Biodegradable wipes as you may want to get clean but standing up for too long for a wash may just be too much. I was given yogurt watered down. I was on clear liquids once home so that felt weird actually eating the yogurt.

Protein water might be good if you are on clear liquids to start.
