I have been trying to lose a few pounds lately and I have really hit a wall.

What do you do that helps you shift a few pounds when you need to?

I find I can't really lose weight without exercising. It makes me less likely to overeat for some reason, then there's the stuff about it raiseing your metabolic rate, as well as burning calories of course.
The drinking loads of water thing really seems to work.
Also, set yourself a goal, and a date to reach it by.

Raising even
What are you already doing Chuff?

Chuffinnora · 04/03/2008 20:28

I do exercise everyday. a combination of step class, walking 5 miles or gym running and cross trainer. Typically I eat
Small bowl all bran breakfast.
Banana snack
Ham roll lunch
pasta or fish and jacket pot loads of veg for tea
150 cal biscuit in eve
Sometime another small bowl all bran around 9pm.
Bit pissed off with it now have only lost 4lbs in about 3 weeks.
I know thats ok but it feels too slow for all the f effort i'm putting in.

Gosh it sounds like you are eating right and exercising a lot. What height and weight are you currently ?

Chuffinnora · 04/03/2008 20:50

The 5 miles walks are broken up by 2.5 miles walk to school and back. Sounds like I'm pounding the pavements when really I'm pushing the pram saying "come on come on they will be ringing the bell now!!".

I'm 5'7 and 11 stone. Want to get into a size 12 and lose a bit of belly and back fat.
Someone in work thinks I eat too many carbs but really how do you eat less? I won't consider the atkins diet. Did it years ago and its foul.

Its still a lot of exercise though and on the calorie intake based on your food diary you should be losing weight, although at your height you don't have a huge amount to lose.

I am very dubious about low carb diets, cannot see at all how it makes sense to eat huge amounts of fat and must be expensive.

I have been hearing good things about following a low GI diet and am loosely following the Rosemary Conley book The GI Jeans diet, although have only been doing it for a week so can't comment on its effectiveness. I like it because its very down to earth and she basically says if you eat less and exercise more you will lose weight. Fingers crossed for me as I'm 5ft 6 and 11 st 4 and want to at least be in the right BMI range for my height.

4lbs in 3 weeks is not bad, slow and steady wins the race etc . I have done 3kgs (so about 6 1/2 lbs) in 4 weeks. Actually sounds like we are pretty similar, I'm 5ft 7 too and 70kgs, which is around 11 stones I think.

I eat less carbs than that, but I generally prefer eating that way. I have a scrambled egg on toast for breakfast, lunch is usually a huge salad of any kind of raw veg, with a few beans and a tin of tuna or mackerel, just vinegar for dressing. Afternoon snack of crackers and cheese, maybe an apple, dinner either veg-heavy stir-fry or curry (no rice) or fish and veg. After dinner snack of 25g of dark chocolate
Anyway, maybe you could do a more salady lunch?

I also find the weightloss seems to go in fits and starts a bit, maybe you are due a leap forward!
